    Fomatting and conditional sections

    Hi all,

I am a newbie to infopath everything I know has been self taught, so my methods are not necessarily the best. I am using infopath 2010

I have created a few different forms for internal use in my company which feed into an access database.

I have several different sets of rules, validations and a information feed from a second database that populates a drop down depending on the users choice from another drop down

However I have been asked to develop the form further and I am stuggling to get the form to behave the way I want to.

Basically, what I need to form to do is display text at the bottom of the form depending on the users choice in a drop down at the top of the form.

    e.g

Business Sector: Choice A / Choice B in a drop down

text box or frame at the bottom of the form above the submit button

"Text A" should display if choice A is selected, "Text B" should display is choice B is selected.

This text does not need to be editable, it is there for the instruction of the user only.

You don't seem to be able to apply rules to text in infopath. I have tried using a section, but did not manage to get this to work either, but this could well be because I am trying the wrong things

I had a search through the forum for answers on this, but I was unable to find anything, but apologise if this has been answered before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Kieran

    Hi there,

One way you could accomplish the behavior you want is to have an "instruction" field that is bound to a calculated value at the bottom of your form.  Then the dropdown would have a rule that says if choice = A then set a field's value instruction = Text A.  Hopefully that will start you on the right path.

    Hi Anson,

Thank you for your response that sounds like exactly what I want.

I apologise if this is an obvious question, but I'm searching through the controls etc. and have also search through infopath help and cannot find anything in instruction fields.

Would I need to use a text control bound to a field in my database, bearing in mind because i'm using access and not sharepoint etc. I don't believe I can have a rich text box.

Or am I missing the point completely?

I apologise again, I am trying to get my boss to put my on a course to learn more advanced infopath, but until then I am pretty much learning by trial and error and google searches, so far I have managed to do everything I need, but this one has got me stumped

I've attached a simple sample form. Right click the link in the post header and save the file locally. Right click the locally saved file and select Design to open in design mode. There is conditional formatting on two expression boxes (calculated values in IP 2010). You can preview the form to see how it works.
