Drop down list boxes and Limiting user

Here is the requirement. Im using Infopath Designer 2010.

There are five dropdown list boxes which has the same set of values in all the dropdown list boxes. Lets say the values are "A" and "B". And a display name "Select...."

User can select only two B's and one A's. from those 5 boxes. If user selects more than that, a message box should pop out stating, "User cant select more than one A and two B" and

the values which user selected before should be changed to Display name (ie. Select...) (ie.for example  if User had selected two B and two A, msg box pops out and those selected values changes

    to display name, "Select")..

Is it possible using out of the box features??? Plz help me out....Thanks in Advance..

I'm certain it can be done, but there are going to be a lot of rules on your dropdowns.

For example, each dropdown should have rules to check for the value A.

    Conditions:

    • Dropdown 1 = A and Dropdown 2 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 1 = A and Dropdown 3 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 1 = A and Dropdown 4 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 1 = A and Dropdown 5 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 2 = A and Dropdown 3 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 2 = A and Dropdown 4 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 2 = A and Dropdown 5 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 3 = A and Dropdown 4 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 3 = A and Dropdown 5 = A, then show the warning
    • Dropdown 4 = A and Dropdown 5 = A, then show the warning

So you end up with 10 rules just to check value A. In math terms that's: C(5,2)

For the dropdown value B, you'd need C(5,3) conditions, which is also 10.

Anyway, it sounds possible without code, but it's a lot of rules/conditions. Good luck

Re: Drop down list boxes and Limiting user

    Ernesto,

Thanks for your reply...I tried in a different way....What I did was, added two new fields beside dropdown boxes.....Used Count function to count A in one field and added all of them.. If the value of that field is greater than 1, validated error....

Same method for B too....ie. Used Count function to count B in another field and added all of them.. If the value of that field is greater than 2 (B), validated error.... But, i dont know how to change the selected values to display name when validated error....Like, if there is an validation error, all of the previously selected values by user should changed to display name...ie.Select....Can anyone give me idea to solve this problem???? Thanks in advance.....
