What is the best practice to promote infopath form fields?

    Hi All,

I am working on different infopath 2010 forms having many common fields like Country, Department, Designation, etc. When I deploy first form as a content type, while promoting fields as columns, I get the option to create new site column, but for subsequent forms, it won't allow to create new site column. So I have to use the existing one or I have to name it differently.

I want to know what is the best practice for this so that I won't face any issues later like duplicate columns in library or something like that. Should I use the site column which was created while publishing first form or I should promote each field with different names like Form1Country, Form2Country.

    Appreciate your suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Rahul Babar

For content types, if the columns hold the same type of data (and it sounds like they do, at least as far as Country and Department goes), I'd use the site column that already exists. That way if you have a library that has two content types available, you'd have a single column holding Country information - that seems like it would be desirable. If the data is different (like I suppose Designation could be), I'd try to find more meaningful names that highlight the difference of what the column contains, instead of using the form name as part of the column.
