    Text field to query data

I'm a new InfoPath user and need some help!

I'm creating an InfoPath list form (linked to a sharepoint list).  This form will be used for the purposes of identifying IP addresses.  Ideally, I would like users to enter an IP address using a text box field.  Then, based on the address entered, have a secondary data connection that contains a range of IP addresses.  Based on the values populated in the text box field, have a lookup function to autopopulate additional information in other areas of the form.  Any suggestions on the best/easiest way to do this?

I attempted to add rules (ranges of values) to the field but InfoPath does not recognize ranges of these types of numerical values.

Also, for some reason I can only insert a "Section" control on my form.  It does not have "Repeating Section" as an option.  Does this have anything to do with it being a list form?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

I'm a little confused on the first part of your scenario.  InfoPath doesn't really handle dynamic data connections based on fields in the form, but I'm not clear on whether that is what you actually want.

Repeating sections are not supported in SharePoint list forms which is why you cannot add the control to your form.

Thanks for the quick response.  It's disappointing I can't use the repeating sections but thanks for sharing.

Here's an example of my first question:

A user would enter the following in a text box:  999.999.999.099

I would like that field to reference a database or excel workbook that contained a list of all available values:

999.999.999.097, 999.999.999.098, 999.999.999.099, etc..  From this I could infer more information based on where in the range of values this is found.  Is it possible to make that data connection?  If so, what should I use?
