Where is the expression box located? Will it be inside a table bound to the Project Status data source?

Yes, I would like to have it inside the repeating table for the first data source as a new row.  However I cannot add new ROWS to the repeating table only new COLUMNS.  I think I added the repeating table by right clicking on d:sharepointlistitem_RW and then selected repeating table.  Maybe that's my problem, maybe I should have added it from the Home tab list of controls.

Not quite sure what you mean by "bound to the Project Status data source" by that do you mean when I added the calculated value that is the first field I selected when I inserted my formula?

Re: A repeating table that shows data from 2 other repeating tables

If your table is bound to a secondary data connection (which it sounds like it is - you added it to the form from that data source) the number of rows is going to be determined by how many rows are returned by that query. Thus, if the data source has 5 rows, when InfoPath queries the data source, your repeating table will have 5 rows.

I do not think I understand what you are trying to do. I'd thought you were just wanting to display this secondary data in your form - for informational purposes. But now you are talking about adding new rows - for which you'd need a table bound to your main data source. When you save or submit the XML created by InfoPath, it only saves the data entered into fields in the main data source.

So, I think I have failed to ask you the right questions here - what is the problem you are trying to solve? If a user adds a new row to a table in your form, do you want to set some default values in it? Or are you showing the Project and Project Status information simply to appraise the user of the status of the project?

As to the calculated value - if the calculated value is going to be inside the repeating table bound to the Project Status data source, I'd expect you to not need to use a calculated value to get the field you seem to be selecting - isn't Overall Health a field inside the Project Status data source? You'd simply use that field for the calculated value and then conditional formatting to hide the ones you don't want to see.....

Sorry for being confusing I think my lack of knowledge of infopath termonoloy is causing the confusion.  Yes, my overall goal is to display Project and Project Status information to appraise the user of the status of the project.  I do not wish to use this form to input new rows.  Here is the layout I wish to achieve (image below).

When I mentioned adding new rows I meant to the layout of the repeating table.  From "overall status" down are rows from data source - Project Status.  I cannot insert a new row into the layout of my repeating table and I can't figure out why.  It will only allow me to enter new columns.

Oh! I understand now! Pictures being worth a thousand words and all. You may need to use a repeating section instead of a table. You can put a layout table inside it, and make it look like the table you've got in your image.

The repeating control (table or section) will have as many instances as your secondary data source has rows.

Hmmm it's not working.  This is what is happening.  Why aren't the Project Description rows under each project name, start / end date?

So, back to me being a pain again - this all depends on what stuff is bound to.

I'd anticipate seeing something more like the screenshot I'll attach here. A single repeating section, bound to the Project Status data source. Instead, in your screenshot, there are multiple repeating sections inside of another repeating section. Which makes me think you've bound one section to one data source (Projects, perhaps?) and the other fields are from the project status data source?

Here's the original sample form I did for you with a repeating section instead of a table. Perhaps this will help.

Great!!!  I think I've got the layout working now, thanks so much!!!

But now my next problem :(

My data sources have "query" fields.  How can I make these fields filter/query the repeating table?

In general - you fill out a query field then re-execute the query to return only the data that meets the criteria. Have you tried that?

Getting closer.  Here's where I am now.  2 questions. I can't get the project status information to be synch'ed with the project information.  1) How can I do this?  I think it is by filtering project name from project information data source1 equals project name from project status data source2.  2) Also do I have the data source 2 fields correctly added to the repeating table layout?

I know I keep asking the same thing - but what is your repeating section bound to? Projects? Or Project Status? If Projects, you'll need to use expression boxes (calculated values in IP 2010) to display the item you want from the project status data source. Do feel free to attach a copy of your template to the Options tab and I can try to help you with it.

Here is the xsn file.  if you could show me how to link the two data sources by implementing it in a few examples and reposting it, I would be in debt to you!!!

View 1 is where I want the user to select what projects to display (filters) and then Print view is the view of the user's selection so they can print and save.
