Signed Certificate InfoPath Form Templates Issue

    Hi,

InfoPath forms with custom code and those that have their Security Level set to Full Trust must be signed so that they can be run by the client.

But If do not have a certificate, we can choose the Create Certificate button.  This will create a test certificate – not a certificate that has been authenticated by a certificate authority.

Question is how can I get a certificate that has been authenticated by a certificate authority?

another question is : if A signed form template that has a Domain or Restricted security level , do we still need that certificate  which has  been authenticated by a certificate authority?

If the certificate is for use just within your organization, then a self-signed certificate will typically suffice.  The ones created with InfoPath seem to have short expiration periods, but if you go to Start->All Programs->Microsoft Office->Office Tools->Digital Certificate for VBA Projects, you can create a certificate with a longer expiration period.

That program can also direct you to a list of certificate authorities.

Restricted and Domain security level forms do not need certificates.

Thank you for your quick reply Jimmy.

If form users only need to populate data to the form and can save or submit the form. all the users are in same domain, does the Domain security level will be fine for us?

    Thank you!

Yes, most likely.  Full trust is only needed if you will be using some sort of intrusive code or accessing data sources outside your domain.

    Another question:

the certificate created by InfoPath is a one month only test certificate, the one go to Start->All Programs->Microsoft Office->Office Tools->Digital Certificate for VBA Projects still a test certificate, right?

Is that certificate enough for long term use in share point site?

    Thank you!

    Thanks Jimmy,

Domain level should be fine for us.

But after set the security level to Domain, and published the form. then send out the form. the form can not be open.

show up message: This form cannot be opened because it requires the domain permission level and it currently has restricted permission. to fix this problem, open the form from the published location...

Details: Forms that require the domain permission level contain features that access information on a network, such as data connections, linked images, and code.

     Any idea?

    Thank you!

It's my understanding that Email forms require restricted trust.

Restricted -- the form cannot access content outside the form .  what does that mean?

after modified the security level to Restricted. then published form can not be open.

Details:This form cannot be opened because it has a restricted security level. To fix this problem, contact the form designer.

    Thank you!

Restricted trust forms cannot use data connections and it appears that they cannot be published to SharePoint.  The only way I'm aware that restricted trust forms can be used is by publishing them via e-mail like this:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb251746(v=office.12).aspx

Can you describe your requirements a little more?  Do you need your users to be able to fill out the form in email?  Because it is possible a non-editable copy of the form by e-mail without using restricted trust.

    Thank you Jimmy,

the form right now is published to network for testing, later on will need to publish to sharePoint site.

Inside the form there is a submit button, the user populate part of the form then submit it to an email address as attachment, then the other user who received the email has to populate the rest of the form and then print it out.

Thanks again, Have a nice weekend!
