How to change the data connection urls when we move xsn file (browser form) from one environment to another

    Hello All,

I am trying to move my xsn file, which is having 12 data connections to sharepoint libraries, from one environment to another environment. and this xsn file is also having custom code behind it. please let me know the best approach to move from one environment to another environment.

    I am using infopath 2010.

     Thanks,

    Narasimha Murthy. B

You may want to use UDC data connections with relative URLs - then you can just upload those to a data connection library of the same name in your new enviro and approve them. Otherwise, you'll need to either walk through the data connection wizard again for each data connection, or try your hand at manually modifying the manifest after backing up your form template and saving as source files.

Hi Hilary, I know this is a very old post but I have the same issue in the new version Infopath 2010. I'm using like you say udcx connections and relative url. the problem is that in manifest.xml infopad save the "relative" url like this: /first sub site/myrealsubsite and the put rootSitecolection tag url="http://myserver:8080" I thinks ifopath concat this two values to get the url. But is not relative!! I publish my infopath inside /myrealsubsite and infopath refer to the connection with /first sub site/myrealsubsite ????? The problem it is more big, i develop a site template with list inside and I need to retive data for that list inside my template. The user the can create this site selec site acctions-->new site... do you know how to solve this?

    Hi:

I'm afraid I don't understand the second part of your question. As to the first part, when you convert a data connection to a UDCX, you have the option of using a centrally managed data connections. Here's a good MSDN post on these options that may help you.

Hi Hilary, Related to the same question, when a site is getting created dynamically, is there a way to have a data connection(UDC) using relative path in a site collection, so that each time the site gets created it stores the data in the SharePoint Library. Basically, can it be done without using any form code. I will appreciate your feedback and suggestion thanks, Sandesh Siwakoti

Hi Hilary, thank you for your help.

This is my issue, I want to change the connection source like below, I changed all the udcx files on the document library to point tqa environment, anyway, the data connection still pointing to the production farm and I need to change it for the tqa environment.

I found a post where they are referring to use this command, but I am not sure that will fix my problem,

     Get-SPWebApplication http://contoso2010 | Update-SPInfoPathUserFileUrl -find "http://contoso2007" -replace "http://contoso2010"

I also changed to publish the form into the new environment but I cant change the connection source, is there a trick or a fast way to do this?

Save the XSN as source files (Publish > Export source files) and you can update that in the manifest.xsf. Then you can right click manifest.xsf and select Design to open in design mode and File > Save As to pack back up as an XSN.

Re: How to change the data connection urls when we move xsn file (browser form) from one environment to another

Hi Hilary:  I made a list template of my SharePoint 2010 list with a customized InfoPath form.   I had thought the form wouldn't come over but somehow it did.  I have some user information being preopopulated using the GetUserProfileByName web service.   I have 3 other fields which are cascading dropdowns that are connected to 3 secondary data connections.  The dropdowns weren't initially populating with the values so I found that the rules didn't come over.  I redid the rules and they work.  Now the problem is that I can select the values but after submit the cascading dropdown values aren't being saved and the prepopulated fields are.

First as I haven't found clear guidance on this anywhere, if you have a SharePoint list and you customize the list form with InfoPath, and the form has these secondary data connections, how do you copy the form to another environment - (DEV to TEST/QA).   FYI, I don't have access to central admin so I can't make the UDCX files.   I have to have this done within the week and right now I can't even think of having to recreate 2x (1 for TEST/QA and 1 for production).

Second, my data connections came over but I thought maybe with the files behind the scene they were still pointing back to the lists on the old site.  I went thru the wizard to redo them but I'm completely new to InfoPath and am googling and find no answers.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi Hilary, yes I did that for the manifest file, I don't get the data connection error when opening the form but the field is not taking the values from the library, it is not showing any value from the drop down menu, I also checked the other files when exporting the source files but only the manifest is showing the old environment which I changed, anyway, I am not getting the values, any other thing I should review? Do I have to change the view id and list id on the manifest file and the data connection files? I am also getting this error,
