Form opens when clicking XSN, but not when clicking link to xsn

This one has got me scratching my head.  I have a form which opens when you click directly on the XSN, but when you click on a link to the form it throws an error.  BTW, the link was created by right clicking on the XSN and selecting copy shortcut.  When hovering on the XSN it gives the same URL as the XSN, and the copied URL is the same as the XSN.

The error we get is one of the cryptic Unexpected Error errors.  When I look up the corresponding GUID in the log file I get this error message [NOTE I added the XXX below]:

    HTTP request URL: /dealercontracts/DocumentCenter/regionalWIPEdit.xsn 66aa4113-56b2-4d19-bf81-d47fd1348a9b

    Some backgrouond info:

Running SP2010 SE, no InfoPathForm Services (which contradicts the error message).

    InfoPath 2010

Does the layout/FormsServer.aspx mean that our environment thinks InfoPath Forms Server is loaded?  Anyone have any clues why links to the XSN doesn't work while clicking on the XSN itself works?

    Hi there,

Using a link to the template URL will give it slightly different behavior than clicking on the template itself.  SharePoint does some behind the scenes work that you're not aware of.  Are you trying to open the XSN in the client or browser?  Assuming you want to open the form in the browser, an easier method would be to load up the form in the browser and then copying the URL in the address bar instead of using the copy shortcut method you described.

For more on URLs in InfoPath, here is an article that may help:
