Cannot open file saved to another directory and issue with conditional formatting in xlm

I created a form and published in common directory so that users can open template and as form to their own directory.  I have two issues as follow:-

    1. When users save file to their own directory, the next day when they open same file, it said "xxx.xsn file cannot be found, check your spelling, or try a different path".

    2. I created formula which pick up today date and compared with fields in form.  I then conditionally format fields that if field date is not equal to today date (formula), field is read only. However, when users save file into xlm, the formula for today date is defaulted to the date users save file, hence, today date is not moving according to date.

    Hello Durian,

    and welcome to our forum.

For the second point it is important that you have checked the box "Refresh formula when formula is recalculated". You will find this checkbox in the properties window of the control beneath the textbox for the default value setting.

For the first mentioned point --- I don“t have an answer - sorry.

    Regards,

    Karsten

    Hi Karsten,

Thanks for your reply and message. I checked my formula and yes I did tick the box that say "Update this value when the result of the formulate is recalculated".  When I open form using Notepad, I saw my formula defaulted date to date when I first open and save file.  It read as <my:Today>2011-11-14</my:Today>.  "Today" is formula name and 14-11-2011 is date when I first open and save the form.  I need "Today"  = today() to be veriable as other fields in the form are depend upon this formula for it to work.  I would expect date to be 2011-11-17 if I open form today.

     Regards,

Why not just use today() in your conditional formatting instead of storing it in a field?  Alternatively, you can use a Form Load rule to set that field to today() when the form is opened.

For the 1st question since your second question seems to be resolved.
How do your users get their forms, from sharepoint, email, a shared drive, etc?

Thanks Jimmy, Yes, it works now by storing today() in conditional formatting.  Cheers.

I published template to shared drive and users need to save form to their own drive.

Is everyone shared drive name the same?

Does everyone have the shared drive named drive X:(any letter will do, but it has to be the same)

If not, Infopath can't find the template when your users are opening locally saved forms.

    Why?
InfoPath stores the File path to the template in the saved form inside the headers, and since your forms are stored on a shared drive, if your shared drive is drive M: and one user is drive O: and another is drive X:, but the path to the template is M:\path to template, only users who have that particular shared drive named M: will be able to use it.  It will always work the first time though, since there is no save file yet.

The only way I can think of to fix it would be to choose shared drive letter Z: and have everyone use it for that shared drive, I don't know if that is possible for you, but that would prevent this from happening form today forward.  This will not fix from today backwards, you would have ot manually edit those saved files to point to the new location of the template.

    Does all that makes sense?

I have now one more additonal issue. When I click sign section, it said "Microsoft Office InfoPath has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."  I do not have this issue early.  How to fix this issue?
