Inserting Data Line from External Data Source

Ok so I have a form I created using InfoPath 2007.  I am using an external data source to retrieve information.  The user Picks a sales order number from a drop down and it populates the Name Address City ect.  That part works great but now I am trying to add the lines in the sales order to the form also.   I created repeating table and added a rule to fill in the item in the field but if there’s more than one item (sales order has more than one line) I only get the first one is there any way to make get all lines associated with that sales order?

Maybe reapeating tables isnt waht i need?

Sadly, InfoPath won't do this out of the box - copy data from one repeating data source to another, which it sounds like is what you want to do - copy repeating data from one data source into the main data source.

    You have some options:

    1. Just display the secondary data - this works if all you need is for users to see the data from your secondary data source, not edit it or store it with the XML from the main data source in the form
    2. Write custom code to copy your secondary data into your main data source - if you aren't a programmer, this may be non-trivial, even though there are samples online
    3. Use qRules - created to fill just these types of gaps in InfoPath, you can download a free trial and see if it solves your form issues before purchasing - here's a link.

this might work because all i want to do is display the items. how would i go about doing this?

    Also checking out qrules

In the data source task pane, find your secondary data source that has the data you wish to display. Drag the repeating node with the data fields in it onto your form. You can then edit the repeating table to remove the columns you don't wish to show.

Hmm that seemed to work, only it shows all the  data..  in which you said it would.  But is there to filter it to just show the data = to my sales order Field

Absolutely - you can use either conditional formatting to hide rows, or right click on the table and under the repeating table properties, in the display tab, add a filter there.

Ok so I tried to set a Filter by right Clicking on repeating section --> repeating Section properties--> Display --> Options (Conditional Formatting) --> Add --> Sonumber(Data)  (is equal to) SOinumber(Form field)  like my other Set field rules.. But that dosnt seem to work

Generally the issue in a case like this is that the data is not actually equal. The data from the secondary data source may be slightly different than that which has been entered into the form.

However, this worked for you for setting field values based on a rule, so I'm surprised it isn't working as a filter. Are you getting all rows returned? Or none?

    Hello Glebron,

When you're using conditional formatting, you usually need to think backwards and figure out what you want to NOT show as opposed to what you do.  In this case, I think the condition you want to use is:

Condition: Sonumber (Data) (is not equal to) SOinumber (Form field)

    Formatting: Hide this control

Could you give that a try?
