Reply Contact just saw it before you replied. I decided to skin the cat by removing all retrival fields from the data connection. I then ran the form and saw issues for lookups, when I looked at the fields, it was evident. back to the clean-up... Reply Contact Hello, I am currently using the demo version of qRules 3.3. The form is working using the tool injected into the form and works browser based as well. The first field that people fill in is one that asks for a employee number, that field in turn calls the FilterOwssvr function 'concat("FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterOwssvr /filter=EmployeeNUM /value=", .)' to fill in the rest of the fields, ie name, email, address, etc. While testing this worked great for me. When I had some of the standard users test, it did not. They fill in their employee number, the green wheel spins for a second and the field where the user typed in their employee number is cleared and the lookup does not happen (like aborted) It seems that anyone with site collection administrator rights, the form works correctly. Anything less than that and they see the issue just described. I have granted full rights to the domain users on both the lookup list and the form library, this did not help. Previously the form worked for everyone when I used the standard sharepoint list lookup data connection. Is this a limitation of the demo version? -B 11-02-2011 08:40 AM In reply to Hilary Stoupa Joined on 06-20-2008 Posts 13,297 Re: Retrieving SP list data works in preview but after publishing does not retrieve data from SP list Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact No, we don't do anything like that in the demo - it is a full featured version that has an expiration date is all (it will stop working on that date and return a message to the Error node as to why). What happens if your users enter the address you are using for the owssvr.dll data connection in their browser - do they get data back? Reply Contact Everyone returns xml data. I created a dummy user and made it site collection admin and tested. being a site collection admin was not the issue, the new user was able to do the lookup on the list but when the form went to save, I received the following error: The form cannot be submitted because of an error. Click OK to resume filling out the form. You may want to check your form data for errors. An error occurred while using the form. For more information, contact the site administrator. Reply Contact Very odd. three of us this works for. myself and two other site collection admins (admin2, admin3) I created a test user (testuser) and gave it both site collection admin and a server admin on the WFE. when I gave the testuser site collection admin rights only it was then able to do the lookup on the list, but when the form went to save, it errored for the test user. the same happened when the testuser was given admin rights on the box as well (no change) . the process works correctly for myself and my other two site collection admins. admin2 does not have admin rights to the WFE server. 11-02-2011 09:49 AM In reply to Hilary Stoupa Joined on 06-20-2008 Posts 13,297 Re: Retrieving SP list data works in preview but after publishing does not retrieve data from SP list Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact I have checked the logs, and don't see any errors. I went ahead and filtered the log on owssvr. I did one test at 12:33 with the test user (fail) and one at 12:40 my account (success). I'll drop that part of the log in this thread, but they look the same to me. -B 11/02/2011 12:33:59.06 w3wp.exe (0x1684) 0x2598 SharePoint Foundation Logging Correlation Data xmnv Medium Name=Request (GET:https://fc.gogoair.com:443/wf/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List=%7b344CC859-CF44-4A06-93B7-AFA6BCB1A6F6%7d&XMLDATA=TRUE&NOREDIRECT=TRUE&FilterField1=EmployeeSSN&FilterValue1=123-45-6789) 2b0bc350-9dd9-48a9-a07d-3591bbe28e8911/02/2011 12:33:59.07 w3wp.exe (0x1684) 0x2598 SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly Medium Leaving Monitored Scope (Request (GET:https://fc.gogoair.com:443/wf/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List=%7b344CC859-CF44-4A06-93B7-AFA6BCB1A6F6%7d&XMLDATA=TRUE&NOREDIRECT=TRUE&FilterField1=EmployeeSSN&FilterValue1=123-45-6789)). You've admin approved (or sandboxed) the form, right? You must have, or qRules wouldn't be working for anyone, regardless of permissions.... Reply Contact What is the rule on the button? What I'd like you do is drag your data connection that you are using in your qRules command - the one that uses owssvr.dll? onto the form, so you can see the data returned to that data source. Then on the button, just have a single rule that queries that data source - doesn't use qRules at all. What I'm trying to ascertain is whether it is simply querying an owssvr.dll data source in the browser that is failing. Anything in the log from InfoPath Forms Services when you open the form as a standard user (I'm assuming that you still have the data connection set to run on load, and that is why you are getting data when you open the form signed in as yourself)? just saw it before you replied. I decided to skin the cat by removing all retrival fields from the data connection. I then ran the form and saw issues for lookups, when I looked at the fields, it was evident. back to the clean-up...
Thanks again for all your help,

Hello,
I am currently using the demo version of qRules 3.3.
They fill in their employee number, the green wheel spins for a second and the field where the user typed in their employee number is cleared and the lookup does not happen (like aborted)
It seems that anyone with site collection administrator rights, the form works correctly. Anything less than that and they see the issue just described. I have granted full rights to the domain users on both the lookup list and the form library, this did not help. Previously the form worked for everyone when I used the standard sharepoint list lookup data connection.
Is this a limitation of the demo version?
No, we don't do anything like that in the demo - it is a full featured version that has an expiration date is all (it will stop working on that date and return a message to the Error node as to why).
What happens if your users enter the address you are using for the owssvr.dll data connection in their browser - do they get data back?
Everyone returns xml data. I created a dummy user and made it site collection admin and tested. being a site collection admin was not the issue, the new user was able to do the lookup on the list but when the form went to save, I received the following error:
Now I wonder if it is a file permission issue in the hive... i'm grasping
Very odd.
three of us this works for. myself and two other site collection admins (admin2, admin3)
I created a test user (testuser) and gave it both site collection admin and a server admin on the WFE. when I gave the testuser site collection admin rights only it was then able to do the lookup on the list, but when the form went to save, it errored for the test user. the same happened when the testuser was given admin rights on the box as well (no change) . the process works correctly for myself and my other two site collection admins. admin2 does not have admin rights to the WFE server.
Did you check the SharePoint logs for the error message?
I have checked the logs, and don't see any errors. I went ahead and filtered the log on owssvr. I did one test at 12:33 with the test user (fail) and one at 12:40 my account (success). I'll drop that part of the log in this thread, but they look the same to me.

I don't see a difference between these either - I diffed them in WinMerge and only see differences in the time, etc. I've emailed Jim (another Qdabra team member) and asked him to take a look at this thread when he has a minute. You've admin approved (or sandboxed) the form, right? You must have, or qRules wouldn't be working for anyone, regardless of permissions....
this looks like it gets more to the heart of the issue: something about _layouts and no access?

Can you add a button to your form that simply queries your owssvr.dll data connection (not using qRules), and drag that data source onto the form, so that you can test as a user where the command is failing and see if you also get a failure just querying the data connection?
Hi Hilary,
I have created a quick form to test with. Not sure if this is exactly what you were asking for.
Here is what I see when I click the button
Here is what I see when a standard user clicks the button: I type in 123-45-6789 as above but the data is wiped away and the results are null.
What is the rule on the button? What I'd like you do is drag your data connection that you are using in your qRules command - the one that uses owssvr.dll? onto the form, so you can see the data returned to that data source. Then on the button, just have a single rule that queries that data source - doesn't use qRules at all. What I'm trying to ascertain is whether it is simply querying an owssvr.dll data source in the browser that is failing.
this is what I typed into the data source : FilterOwssvr:
https://sharepoint.company.com/wf/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List=%7b344CC859-CF44-4A06-93B7-AFA6BCB1A6F6%7d&XMLDATA=TRUE&NOREDIRECT=TRU
I then dragged that out onto the form (the xml link)
With my ID i see:
as a standard user, there is nothing
So, this is helpful - looks like that data connection is failing when you are using certain user IDs (standard user).
Anything in the log from InfoPath Forms Services when you open the form as a standard user (I'm assuming that you still have the data connection set to run on load, and that is why you are getting data when you open the form signed in as yourself)?
Actually I still type in data on the SSN field and hit tab. Automatically retrieve data when form is opened is not checked.
