Environment - MOSS 2007, InfoPath 2007, SQL 2008
Goal - to create a basic form for our attorneys to fill out. 99% of it can be created in a Sharepoint custom list, however one question asks to enter as many examples of something as the person knows. It would be 4 parts to each example.. The other part of this, is once the form is entered, we want all the data to be fully searchable - which also made sharepoint quite desireable.
Current Status - Since it appears that I cannot create this form in native sharepoiint, I looked to infopath which I have never used. I found the repeating row option, but I am not clear as to how to implement it. I also am considering just building a small .Net website for the users to enter the information, and then a small console for them to search and generate reports.
So, based on this, I have the following questions.
1. Whats the best way to host an infopath form? Noone aside from IT has infopath installed. I would love to host it in Sharepoint, but the one example I tried it still required infopath to open.
2. If I decide to forego sharepoint, and just build a .net app, the database I build will probably just have a second table to store the information of the repeating row. I will just link it by userID. I built a small dirty database, but It wasnt clear how to link the entire 4 columns of the repeating row to the database. It wouldnt allow me to select multiple rows - Is there a good tutorial or can someone give me any suggestions where to start on this?
I would love to have a clean infopath form to populate the SQL database, and if people want to make edits, can it too be thru infopath? Or am I better off just building an edit form in .Net as well? Its driving me nuts that I cant do this in Sharepoint, but its a good, fun challenge to get this going.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated... Thanks!
