    InfoPath 2010 Publishing

    Greetings All,

    A question from noobie-ville.

I created a form to allow users to submit a form via email.

I have to use two views - one enabled while the users are editing and the other that is enabled when the user clicks the submit button.

Why the second view?  The form is being sent via email to several address - one of which faxes the form.  The FAXed version does not represent check boxes accurately so I created a second view to build the labels and values in a text box.

The form works as intended on my PC.  No matter what I try to do WRT "publishing" the form, the second view does not display when the user clicks the submit button.

I have tired to publish to a sharepoint 2007 wss site which resulted in a weird domain security error and would not allow the form to load.

I have tried to publish to a file share.  At least with this option the form loads correctly and the user can fill it out.  However, when the user clicks the submit button, a email message form pops up with all of the email addresses and no data in the message body.

I have even tried out of frustration to simply copy the xsn to a user's desktop figuring what the heck - I'll try anything at this point.

    What am I missing?

    Hi -

In the past, I know that if we change views in a ruleset that includes an email submit, we end up sending a blank email (so, where you say it works on your machine confuses me a bit) - a rendering bug.

We usually use two sections in the same view and have a "helper" field that we use to show and hide the section we want to display in email - so one section hides if the helper field is true, the other if the helper field is false - the rules on the submit sets the helper field to true (hiding the fill out section, displaying the email section), sends the email, then sets the helper field back to false....

    Hello Hilary,

I have built the form just as you wrote with two sections in one view and a "helper field" that is of type boolean.  The rules on the submit are set just as you wrote.  When I execute/run the form on my PC - the same one that I developed the form on - the form behaves as intended.

The editing section is displayed at form load, I can complete the form, click the submit button on the InfoPath ribbon, the email section displays with all of the labels and values just as intended with the "email submit" dialog box displayed (the one with Send and Cancel buttons).

The seemingly simplest publishing method for me was to publish to a file share.  I got around the odd domain security/trust issue by setting the security level to Full Trust and creating a self-sign certificate - maybe not so elegant or maybe not even the recommended way to clear the problem but I could find no other way to eliminate the domain security/trust issue.  Publishing to a SharePoint/WSS forms library definitely did not work.

Once I published the form to the file share, the user could execute the form without the domain security/trust error warning, they could complete the form, but when they click on submit, the editing section is hidden, and what appears to be a simplified (meaning no ribbon) blank (with nothing in the message body) outlook new message form appears and there is no email submit dialog box.

I am nearing the deadline on what I thought would be an easy thing to complete.  Any ideas you can pass along would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,

    Jim

Can you post your form in a reply? Under the Options tab there is a place to attach a file.

I don't understand the issue with publishing to SharePoint - when you day "did not work" - what do you mean? You couldn't publish? You had errors? Email didn't send?

You should be able to publish to a network share as domain trust (unless your form has code that requires full trust).

Does your user have the same versions of InfoPath and Outlook installed? (i.e., both are 2010) Has s/he used the previous version of the form? Was s/he prompted to update their template when s/he opened the new form? (i.e., is a cached version of the previous template being used?)

Yes.  I will attach the file.

WRT publishing to sharepoint - the form never showed up in the library that I created.  I never saw any errors.  So I simply uploaded the form from within the sharepoint site.  It then showed up in the library.  However, when a user tries to run it, they get an error dialog that reads: This form cannot be opened because it requires the domain permission level and it currently has restricted permission.  To fix this problem, open the form from the location it was published to.  Following that the dialog displays published location: file://c:\users\.. showing the path to where the original form was located on my PC.  I have since deleted the form from the library and moved on to attempting to publish it via the file share - attempting to simplify things.

WRT to publishing to a share - I have no idea of the code requires full trust.  There is nothing earth-shattering - all accomplished with rules and such - no elaborate code.

WRT users - yes, they have the same versions of InfoPath and Outlook - all 2010.

WRT previous versions of the form - no, this is brand new to them.

WRT a prompt to update their template - no, I was at their desk when they tried to load it.  I never saw a dialog that seemed to indicate the need to update their template.

When you clicked the New button in the library, it didn't open your template that you published to the library?

If you upload the form instead of publishing it, you'll get a permissions error - they are meant to be published.

So, you'd publish the form to a SharePoint library. You'd use the "New" button in the library to open the template to fill it out. If you want to also save the completed forms in the library, you'd add a Submit connection the same library you are publishing to.

Here's some additional info on publishing. I'll take a look at your form later this morning.

You may want to try setting field6 to use a default value made up of your concat formula, rather than setting in the same ruleset as the submit action, just in case that is what is causing the issue. The form does appear to have code added (easy to accidentally add custom code - I've got no way of knowing if there is any actual code in the events) - if you've not intentionally written any code for the form, you may want to remove the code. Go to File --> Info --> and click the Form Options button. Under the Programming category, select Remove Code.

The completely different behavior from your machine to your user's machine perplexes me, I'm afraid. So you know, when I change the email submit connection to use my email address, preview the form and fill it out, I get the InfoPath email submit dialog with the send and cancel button - your users are getting a blank Outlook new message (without the ribbon showing) if I understand you correctly.

OK - sorry for the delayed response - so it's a new week and my cold/flu has started to break.  Turns out the one user is running all Office 2010 app's except for Outlook which was Outlook 2007.  Seemed all app's were up to date to me.  Shows what happens when you assume too much and try to work with a fever.

After upgrading Oulook the form is functioning as designed.  I'll read up on the publishing link.  Do you know of a method to respond to the cancel in button in the email submit data connection?

Thank you so much for your help!
