Hi Everyone,

I'm running into an issue with one of my forms.  It has 4 optional repeating sections that I need to use and it uses the getuserbyname web service.  Is this my main issue for it, taking 8 to 10 secs to load?

Does it open more quickly in preview than in the browser? Any other data connections running? Does it open faster if you temporarily disable the data connection (that is, set it to not run on load)?

is this only experienced when a client is calling a webservice for the first time? If it is --- this is caused by the fact that by default a XmlSerializers dll for the webservice needs to be compiled. This is causing about 5 seconds for the initial call. In this case I don´t know a solution for this issue.

 I just figured out why its loading so slow.  It is because of a data connection to a SharePoint List.  I still need this connection because I run an autonumber off of the ID.  Is there another way to get the ID off the list?

When do you need that info? Right before you submit? If so, maybe run your query then....make sure you are just returning the column you need (sounds like you just need the ID column). Any chance you are using SharePoint 2010? If so, you could use the OData provider to return just the current max ID, so that would definitely shorten the amount of time needed for the query to return data.

 Thank you Hilary.  I just needed that quick thought.  Been burnt out most of this week.  The problem was it was querying at the beginning and that is never good with SharePoint Lists, makes everything slow down on load.  I tagged it to a field that was required and once the user filled in that field it would query out then fill in the autonumber.

Hi Hilary - Do you have an example for how to configure the OData Provider? I don't have this issue yet but could see it coming over time.

I'm all crazy about SharePoint and OData right now.

If you get an error, you may need to install ADO.NET data services update: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2343

Hey - did you know that Excel services has a REST API too that you can access from your IP form? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee556413.aspx

You can even use it to display dynamic charts in a form (and this is something that works better in browser than client!!)

Can you tell I think all this is super cool? And that reminds me ... I need to blog the Excel / IP / Chart thing, 'cause it is ridiculous.
