    Auto Complete form based on key value

    Not sure I am wording this correctly, but what I am after is to populate a single field from a sharepoint list, and it then populates the rest of the form based on values from that row...

    so in my info path form I have request number, application vendor, application name, application version,  etc... upon entering this request number it then populates the rest of the details relating to this request from the sharepoint.

     Is this easily possible with info path?

     I basically just want to take away the manual process of re-entering details that could easily be pulled in from a source based upon a key value :)

    thanks.

    this article was useful: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/4204/16494.aspx#16494 and have got some things working :o)

     Having a few issues returning certain fields...

    1) Trying to return the value of of contact chooser field from my sharepoint list...

    Currently it's returning something like this;

     LastName,, FirstNameDOMAINNAME\USERNMAME

     Here is my forumla on my rule;

    xdXDocument:GetDOM("Application Tracker")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:SharePointListItem_RW/d:Requester[../d:ID = current()]

     Essentially I am just after the Display Name... but for some reason when its returned back from sharepoint it has 2 ',,' in there along with the DOMAIN\USERNAME stuff which I dont want as I wish to reuse this field in my "submit options" email submission for the form..... How can I strip out the stuff I dont need ?

    2) In my sharepoint list, I have a field that is a look-up field, that links to another list..... so when I am doing my rule for this, I am only getting the ID and not the title returned to the field I am trying to populate...., now when I have done workflows in sharepoint designer, I can do an integer lookup, so it looks at the ID and returns the Title.... this is essentially what I need to do with infopath, tried a few things but without success. is there anyway of doing this?

     Cheers

    Hi - so, the field you are trying to compare on - what does it contain? I'm wondering if you could use a substring function to trim down the value returned from SharePoint to something you could match on (substring-after or substring-before, or a combination - like substring-before ",," to get the last name, then substring-after ",," combined with substring-before the domain - which would only really work if everyone is in the same domain...)

    The double comma is kind of weird - I know that SharePoint lookup fields have ";#" in them a lot (may have that backwards, it may be pound, semicolon), but I've not pulled back info from a contact selector field before.

    But for email submission, wouldn't you want the domain and user name? Or the user name?

    As to your second question - you'd have a secondary data connection to your other list that included the title. I'm not sure if you are talking about pulling from a lookup field in a list, or if you've created a data connection where the values used for the list's lookup are stored (sorry, I know I'm not being terribly coherent). So, if you have a SharePoint list with a lookup to another list (let's say "Orders" that has a lookup to "Customers") I'd expect the Orders list to contain Customer IDs. If I wanted to get additional customer info, I'd create a data connection to the Cuistomers list. Does that make more sense?
