Hi,

I have been using IP 2003 running on XP for several years. Now, the company will be upgrading to Windows 7 w/ Office 2010. My question is this:

What needs to be done to make the transition as smooth as possible?

I know little about Office 2010 at the moment, but pretty sure that I can pick it up as things get going again...I haven't touched IP since I created IP 2003 forms a few years ago.

Are there any conversions that need to be done?

Can the transition be seemless, if done right?

Any tips or noteworthy thougths on this topic?

One other thing...

 These forms have some js code. I've read a bit online about 2010. How will the code be impacted? Will it still work?

If I'm not mistaken, the js code will still run in 2010, but the caveat is that you will no longer be able to edit it, since 2010 does not include the script editor.  You should look at transitioning your form to either use managed code (C#/VS), or a code-alternative, like qRules.

 However, if I am indeed not mistaken, that will only be an issue if you're looking to make changes to the code functionality right after the switch over.  In general, a transition from 2003 to 2010 should be pretty painless and not require any special planning and conversions, though I would recommend testing your forms out in 2010 before the transition, to make sure that there aren't any issues.

So before the role out, I should simply open the IP 2003 forms in design mode in IP 2010 and publish them using IP 2010 to a network location? There is nothing else that really needs to be done? Of course I would test them to make sure that they still work fine in IP 2010.

Just by simply beginning to design and publish these forms in IP 2010 will allow all IP 2003 forms to benefit from IP 2010 features? Or are there restrictions? Don't worry about the browser enabled feature as we don't intend to use it. We use them only via emails and desktop workflows. But, like the ability to be able to send these forms in the body of the emails without the xml file being visible and being able to actually click, for example, the approve button within the body of the email, will be something that these forms can benefit from?
