    DBXL Installation Issues.

I am trying to install DBXL on Sharepoint 2010 using SQL Server 2008 R2. The name of the Sharepoint server is xx and the fully qualified name of the server is yy.zz.aa.com. While installing the software, in the Site URL drop down, I had selected "Sharepoint - 80'. Under site tab, i tried to put fully qualified name, but it does not take it. So I left xx which was the default option. The installation completed fine and I am able to open the Qdabra database accelerator on the server. When I try to open if from my machine with the same URL, it asks for login information. No matter what user I give, it would not open. So it works only on the server.  How to fix it?

The form is developed on my machine. So, should i move it to the server for database mapping? On submission, the form data should be inserted/updated to the SQL Database as well as to the sharepoint form library. How to do it?

    Thanks,

    Sejal

What are the bindings for the "SharePoint - 80" site?   The hostname field is read-only when the hostname is specified by the IIS binding.  If the IIS binding specifies just the port number, the hostname can be specified.  When multiple bindings are configured, you should select from the site url dropdown using yy.zz.aa.com:port or machinename:port and override the hostname.  Before doing this however, make sure you can login to the SharePoint site using http://yy.zz.aa.com from the server desktop.  Using the fqdn can cause 401 errors when accessing on the server (see MS KB article 896861 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861)

When using the fqdn yy.zz.aa.com, can you login to the SharePoint site?

    Re: DBXL Installation Issues.

When DBXL Server edition is installed, this is the first input screen- "Select Installation Address" where you need to select "Site" from the drop down list and specify the "Virtual Directory". So here under "Site", I selected "Sharepoint - 80" from the drop down.On the subsequent input screen with multiple tabs, under "Site" tab, I can specify the "Host Name" under "Binding Detail". The default value for host name was the machine name. I tried to change that to the fully qualified name, but it did not take it. So I left it with the machine name itself and the installation completed fine. I am able to login to the fully qualified name - http://yy.zz.aa.com from client as well as the server machine. I do not think that the fqdn issue referred above is our issue, since I am able to access the site with fully qualified name from client as well as server machine.I need this to be resolved ASAP, since we are evaluating Qdabra and need to decide pretty soon.

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: DBXL Installation Issues.

Hi Sejal, here is our meeting summary:

The SharePoint site is accessed using http://yy.zz.aa.com

SharePoint alternate access mappings are as follows:

    internal URL                            Zone      public URL

    http://yy.zz.aa.com                  Default   http://yy.zz.aa.com

    http://yy.zz.bb.aa.com             Default   http://yy.zz.aa.com

    Accessing using http://yy.zz.bb.aa.com/QdabraWebService works

Accessing using http://yy.zz.aa.com/QdabraWebService gives repeated prompts for credentials

You are investigating if the second alternate access mapping is used (http://yy.zz.bb.aa.com) and remove it if is not required.   If it is needed, you will reinstall DBXL using http://yy.zz.bb.aa.com.

We will also investigate if there are any other configuration options so that you can use the shorter hostname.
