    Filter Data

    Hey All,

I am currently struggling to figure out how to make this work correctly. I am not a coder by any means but am looking for a easy solution to the following:

I am using Infopath 2007 and Moss 2007. I have a list in SharePoint that has 2 columns: Company and Project. In my Infopath form I have 2 drop down boxes that are recieving that data from those 2 columns in SharePoint but I would like them to do the following: when the "Company" is selected I would like the "Project" drop down box to only populate the projects for that selected company....I was told in a previous post to do this with the Filter Data option but am failing to set this up correctly, I was also told this had to be done by code since it was 2007, which would be the correct answer and how can I accomplish this without knowing how to code it correclty? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Daniel - It's been a while since I've been on IP 2007 but let me see if I can help you out here. What you essentially want to do is apply a Formatting filter to the Project dropdown field and filter it based on the value of the Company field in your form.

Hide Projects if Company field in your Projects dropdown field does not equal the value in the Company dropdown list.

    Does that help?

    Hey Scott,

Thanks for your quick response, I dont see an option to "Hide" when I am trying to setup the Filter Data Format. Can you give some more detail on this?

Please excuse my noobness, I am still learning.... :)

     Thanks

I'm sorry Daniel, without having a IP 2007 environment in front of me. Let's try, if you select the Projects dropdown properties page - you should see you the section at the bottom of the page where your secondary data connection is. If you click on the button next to Entries, is there an option to filter the data?

Here you want to add a Filter Condition (IP 2010 vocabulary). On the left side select the field Company keep the operator"equal to" and the on the right side you want to go pick the dropdown field that holds the Company from your main datasource. You will also want to make sure the Value and Display Name fields are pointing to the Company name field.

    I hope this helps.

    Hey Scott,

Again, thank you....I can get into the filter data screen but I cant seem to set this up correctly, when I do set it up the way you explained I get the company choices in both flields, not company/project.

    Any additional suggestions?

    Thanks

Can you attach your template to a reply? Under the Options tab ...

I added filters to both of your projects dropdowns based on the selected Company for the group. Right click on the link in the post header, save it locally, right click to open in design mode so you can re-save it. Let me know if this does what you need or if I misunderstood what you were trying to do here.

    Hi Hilary,

Thank you for taking the time to do this but nothing is populating in the project dropdown field now. Maybe I am explaining this wrong. I have a list in SharePoint, 2 of the columns are Company and Project. Those 2 columns are providing the information in the Infopath form for Company and Project dropdown boxes. What I am trying to do is have it so when the Company is selected the only projects that appear in the Project dropdown box are the Projects associated with that Company in the SharePoint list. Does this make sense and is it possible to do this with the filter data option?

     **EDIT**

Ok so this is weird, the first set does not populate anything in the project dropdown box but the second one you did is working fine?

    **EDIT**

Hilary, you are awesome, I just needed to make one small change I noticed betweem the 2 different filters you created and now they are both working exaclty like I wanted them to. You rock! Thank you for everyones suggestions and help. Much love infopathdev!!

     Thanks

First, yes, it is possible. This is exactly what filters are for in drop down list boxes.

It looks like I selected the wrong field in the filter for the first company / project drop down set. I'm attaching your template again with that fixed. But the second set of company / project dropdowns appear to have the correct filter.
