InfoPath Dev

Hi everyone,

I am quite new to this forum and looking forward to learn new things with regards to Infopath.

I have been trying to learn Infopath by myself the past few days, I would just like to ask, how do i populate a field on a form with data coming from another form?

Is this possible? Let's say on Form 1 I have a field called  "Name:" and then I want this to be automatically populated  by my entry on Form2 with the field also called "Name:" once I click the submit/save button on Form2.

Im just doing some random test and I just want to figure out how to do sort of lookups. Hope you could advise or maybe direct me in a similar thread?

Well, if your Form 1 has promoted properties and the "Name" field is promoted, you could probably use a data connection to the first form library in Form 2 to get back data from the promoted properties.

If, instead, what you mean is that you will be opening Form 2 from Form 1 and want to pass a value from one to the other, you'll need to write some code or try qRules for that. Here's a blog post from the InfoPath team on input parameters that may help you.

Thank you Hilary for your response. It sounds like "Promote Property" is more practical in my case? Or perhaps easier?

Coding is not really my thing, probably those are for more advance users.

How do I Promote Properties on Infopath2003? I went to Forms options and I do not see any tab for doing this, could you advise?

When you publish your form to SharePoint, you should have the ability to select fields to promote. I know by IP 2007, under Tools > Form Options you could find a property promotion category, but can't recall if it was there in IP 2003
