Infopath on SharePoint2010 on FireFox 3.6 on W2k

Yes - I know - OMG, but still we have to support this in our company. The situation:

We are migrating to SharePoint2010 in the next weeks. We still have a lot of Windows 2000 PCs that cannot be migrated to Windows7 in the near future. As alternate browser we rollout FireFox 3.6.18 for the users to be able to use the SP2010 sites.

Now we found one issue - when there are InfoPath files in DocLibs and you click on them using FF they are opened within the browser and not (as with IE) with the IP fat client. IP is installed on all our clients.

Any idea how I can tell FF to open XML with IP?

Any ideas? Thnx in advance! Michael

    Hello MichaelF,

I have heard about this issue a long time ago and as far as I know the only solution was to create a small feature to open (all) documents and even Infopath forms in the appropriate client application. You will find a sample here:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointinfopath/thread/02ae4f74-8b96-419d-a0f3-70053fa4cfee

    Hope that helps...

    Hi Karsten!

Thnx for the link - I already found that, too. But we don't really want to rollout a feature on both farms (2007 and 2010) and also it works only with a right click menu afterwards - which is another change for the users. We would prefer a solution that works similar to IE - but maybe this is our last chance to get it going...

But I still hope somebody knows a better way :)

    Hi all again!

Anyone any idea? Additionally we have the problem that you cannot create a new Infopath form in the library using the 'New document' button in the ribbon. The error will state: This feature requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or later and a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible XML editor such as Microsoft InfoPath.

The explanation seems to be a missing ActiveX control (http://www.21apps.com/sharepoint/firefox-plugin/) - although it's working for all other office docs. Nevertheless - the solution there doesn't help as we cannot rollout Office 2010 on Win2k either. Thankful for any new ideas... Michael
