    Problem with Filler width!

    Hi

I have a problem with the width of the Filler when it comes up. It is superwide, twice as wide as my contents. So I have a large white block with no contents on the right hand side (contents is left aligned).

I have tried to set custom layout width (Page Design>Views>Properties), but it won't take. I have a solution that is multi-views with nav between them, and I have put the same custom width on all of them.

Right after I set this up, it worked for a while. Then slumped back into superwide for no apparant reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think you can design a form exert control over the size of the InfoPath filler window.  Generally it will open with the size and position it had the last time it was closed.  Is it that much of a problem to have excess whitespace some of the time?  You could of course mitigate the issue by center-aligning the contents, but I presume you have a reason for left-aligning it.

I think you may be right about window settings being persisted independently of my property setting. But - I tested now, and it does not seem to work that way. I open the filler, make some changes in the form, tried closing it, and submitting it. It does not rpersist screen nor window size. It is just very odd.

I have 900 px of excess whitespace all of the time, and would love to manipulate the behaviour to get rid of it.. I don't think center-aligning would fix the problem, would only get 450 px per side instead. It just looks very unprofessional with all that excess whitespace. Not to mention, the people using it may have something up on their screens they are using simultaneously. Ideally a window should not block all other contents in default restored state, only maximised stated.

Thank you for your suggestion, got any more..?

Well, you could add a background color or background image if you think the white looks sloppy.

I do think you are overstressing this.  I've done some tinkering around with InfoPath window sizes and locations just now and it does preserve them.  Despite whatever reason you're experiencing this issue, there's a good chance your users won't.

Incidentally, what version of InfoPath and Windows are you using?  I have 2010 and Vista.

    Re: Problem with Filler width!

    Hi,

I am using Infopath 2010 and WinXP. The company will upgrade to Win7 in a few weeks, maybe that will help. Users won't start using it until the roll-out so maybe you are right about window size/location persistance.

I am not stressed. I just want it to work the way I have set my mind to. I am not accustomed to accepting sub-par solutions because software doesn't want to ;)

I think I will wait and see if it resolves itself with Win7, when you say it works with Vista. I did expect some hick-ups from using Infopath 2010 on XP, this may be one of them.

    Thank you for your help!
