Existing form not saving to SharePoint. Tries doing a Save As

We have a couple users with this problem.   This is not browser based, they are opening Infopath from SharePoint    .They open up a form to approve and when they click the Save icon in the toolbar, they are prompted to do a Save As... to their My Documents.  It is like they dont have permission to save back to that library or the form is already open and it is conflicting.

The user has full control of the document library and everyone has Read access to the content type form.

Issue is still present....  It might be helpful to note when that particular user opens up any InfoPath form from SharePoint, it opens as a Read Only form.  He can save the form to his desktop and then have no problem editing.  It is something to do with the connection to SharePoint.  But he has full authority.

I dont want to delete his profile... but that might be an option  ??

    Bump...

Deleting the user's profile fixes the problem, but it is time consuming and I need to get to the root of the problem.  Thoughts? Anyone else having this issue?

Your initial post mentioned several users with this issue - is that still the case? Do all IP forms open as Read Only for all of these users? If they created the original XML, do they still have the issue? Operating systems and versions of Office and Internet Explorer the same for all users? IE settings the same for all users?

There are several users with this issue.   3 out of 100+.     The other user recollects having the Save As issue for all forms that open in IP.    We havent validated that this issue occurs when the troubled user was also the creator.

Their OS is XP and IE is 8.    Same settings.

My only thought is that when they to open a link, a browser version of the form opens first and immediately locks the record before the IP form opens.

So the form is a browser form? And opens in client if they have it?

Have you tried removing the form template from their cache? -- Let me know what version of IP if you need steps on that....

I've no idea why I listed IE8.  It is opening in Infopath version: 2007 SP2

I've tried clearing the cache: InfoPath /cache clearall

I also opened InfoPath and deleted the existing forms... which I imagine does the same thing.

Yup, that should have gotten the form out of the cache.

I'm sorry - I really can't think of much else. In case it is any help - my basic troubleshooting involves first narrowing down if it is the user or the machine - have the user log into a machine where things work - does s/he still have the issue? Log into the user's machine - still have the issue?

You'd mentioned deleting and recreating the user's profile cleared this up - but for how long?

Thanks for the response...   I had the user log into a different machine and it worked fine.   You make a good point, I'm not sure how long it will be before this error occurs after deleting the profile.

    Thanks again for the tips!

Cleared the internet cache and temp files.   Worked.   It seems like Infopath tries opening in a browser behind the scenes which temporarily locks the record while the client is attempting to open.
