How to create Infopath XML in a workflow and not XSN in an Infopath library

I have a workflow (Designer 2010) that should create an infopath form. The library is type Infopath 2010 and it has a XSN template with workflow associated with the form. With the workflow, this creates a new form with the XSN type and not with XML. Why? I need the XLM form empty and not the XSN template so that mi users can fill out the form in Explorer. THe users don't have infopath on their pcs.

     Hi!

If your users don't have InfoPath insalled, then do you have SharePoint IFPS enabled to allow the to fill out the form in the browser?

    Ernesto:

Thank you for your reply but the problem isn´t the visualization in the browser but it is in creating the XML document in the  Infopath library from a workflow (Designer 2010). It always creates a XSN file and not a XML file based on the library template.

So, forgive me, but I'm totally confused by this. Can you explain your set up a bit more? Why would your users not just open the XSN in the form library (in the browser) and save the XML? Or is the workflow supposed to be creating an XML with some additional info or something in it?

If your workflow is creating an XSN - what are the steps in your workflow?

    These are the steps

    1. Create a form with infopath
    2. Add any field in the form
    3. Public this form in infopath library in any site or subsite
    4. I check that the library has  the Template.xsn in the library
    5. In the library add new document and the form is created ok (for this point there is no problem )
    6. In designer 2010 creates  a  new reusable workflow
    7. Add a new activity called create list element
    8. Specify the parameters for the library
    9. Publish the workflow
    10. Add a new library (to run the workflow)
    11. Verify the infopath library
    12. The new document in the library is a XSN document (or template and this is wrong because I am expecting a new infopath xml document based on the template.xsn)

    Thank you for your input!

So, forgive me, but I'm still having some trouble understanding....

But it sounds like your users fill out the form and submit it to your library. All that works fine.

And then there is a workflow on your library that .... does what? Creates a new list item? A new item in another library?

Can you attach a screenshot of your workflow?

Hillary, I too am now running into this same issue. Via workflow I am creating a document in a SP2010 Library. My data is mapped correctly and is visible in the library view. I have enabled Content Type Management. I have an IP form connected to the library as well as an additional form that was saved as a Content Type which I have added to the library. When I try to open the document from the view, Filler launches and cannot find the form. I need the application to open the IP form in the browser with the new data inside it. Have been working on this for days.... due tomorrow. Have qRules..... havent used it ever. Looking to see if perhaps there might be a resolution there.... cjsigler

When you create the document are you adding the InfoPath processing-instructions so the XML knows what template to use? Maybe attach one of the XML you are creating to a reply?
