    256 Character Limit?

I am trying to export text from an infopath form (drop-box) to an xml file for use in a Word document. A few of the lines of text I am trying to export are longer than the 256 character limit set by the Infopath drop-box. I'm curious if there is a way to do this, or if I am better off taking another route.
    Thanks,
    ~Gary

Instead of storing the entire line in the drop box (which I doubt anyone can read anyway), you could display a shorter version, or synopsis of the text you are trying to pass in the drop box and use this as a reference when you are exporting. For example:

    DropBox Options:
    -Brown dogs run fast.
    -Cats eat mice.
    -Mice like cheese.

Then, whenever you are running your export code you will know that when "Brown dogs run fast" is chosen in the drop box you must export "The brown dogs across the street where I live in New Hampshire are probably the fastest dogs on the face of the planet."

I hope this makes sense, let me know how it works. However, I am curious on why you would make a drop box with 256 character options; wouldn't that fill almost 3 pages horizontally and look horrible?

Ok, So now I have brown dogs run fast sitting in an XML file. What would the best method be to change the code to "The brown dogs across the street where I live in New Hampshire are probably the fastest dogs on the face of the planet." Which would be what I need to display in Word. I know this is pretty basic, and I should be able to figure it out, but it is Monday morning so any help would be appreciated :)

You're populating your drop box from a secondary data source, correct? If you have a repeating table the represents the options in the drop box then you will add another column in the repeating table to represented the "extended" version. Or, if you are not using the Value column for anything you could simply use it.

Data Source that populates drop box:
    DisplayName Value Extended
Brown dogs run fast 1 The brown dogs across the street in New Hampshire...
