How to know when a form was submitted

I'd like to know is there a way to know (without coding) when the submit button has been click in a web-based browser form using Infopath 2007?

In the Submit Options for your form, you can choose to submit via rules. One rule would be to submit the form using the data connection you want to submit with. But another action could set a field's value.

So, for example, you could have True / False field in the data source (doesn't have to show on the form) called Submitted. The default value could be false. The rules in the Submit Options would be to 1. Set the Submitted field to true and 2. Submit the form.

Thanks for your reply Hilary.  Is there some way where our group would instantly know whether form was submitted or not? I have many requestors saving/submitting forms and have created custom buttons where once submitted, that person and our group gets an email notification that form was submitted. I was thinking of either setting a color palette (if possible in default view) or adding a column through setting a field's value stating submitted. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Well - I need a little more help. When you say setting a color palette - what do you mean? When you in default view - do you mean the default view of the form? Or the default view of the library? As far as adding a column - if you add a field to your form's data source, and set the value of the field when the form is submitted, you could promote that field to the form library when you publish the template, so that anyone looking at the form library would see it. That would mean your submit rules would 1. Set the field's value and 2. Submit the form to the SharePoint library. You could then add another rule to submit with an email connection, if you also want to email the form.

    I hope that makes sense?

Sorry about that vague description. I meant setting the color palette in the form library. Can that be done? I played around and know how to set it in the form view (which is pretty cool). If not, then I guess the only way is, like you said, promote a field. I would assign a rule that when the user clicks submit, the set field’s value would be “Yes” and is viewable in the form library as submitted.

Well, I think you could probably highlight the row in the form library based on some conditional formatting (using SharePoint Designer, most likely, I'm not sure what's available in the UI). But you'd still need to promote the column so that you had the value to base the conditional formatting ont....

Thanks Hilary but I am restricted on using SharePoint Designer. So I will resort with promoting the field. I think I am finally finished with this revised form!

    Thanks for all your help
