    Rules around the Submit button

Hi I'm a new user to infopath and have been asked to amend an exisiting form which has exisiting rules for the submit button. I have been asked to add a check box to this exisiting form which must be checked inorder for the form to submit. Initially I thought setting the properties of the check box to Cannot be blank would be sufficient but appears not.......any help or guidance around this would be much appreicated :-)

    Hi Jenny and welcome!

Add a formatting rule to your button that disables the button if the checkbox field is blank.

Thanks Patrick that worked a treat for the form I was working on.

One more little question. I have a form that contains up to 25 fields that may or may not be populated by the end user. It is a form to record changes to staff and staffs various roles. Now I don't want blank forms being submitted but when I add rules to the submit button to diasble if they happen to be blank it doesn't work. I bascially had to create 5 rules saying if "New name" is blank or "New Role is blank etc disable the submit button. Because there are so many possible fields that may or may not be amended this resulted in 5 formatting rules being attached to the submit button. Sadly however it didn't work the submit button was still enabled in the form! I'm not sure if the volume of possibilities has confused it........and me along the way!

Any ideas would be great :-)

    Thanks

    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,

Yes, conditions are limited to 5 comparisons.

But, why not just use the out-of-box support. Click on the fields in taskpane and select the checkbox "cannot be blank". Clicking submit will show an error and tell users the form is incomplete.

To make the fields stand out, one cool thing I do is just add a formatting rule if the field is blank to highlight the background in yellow.

That way, users will know what's left.

Easy and out-of-box wins in the end!

    :)
