Is there a way to just get the newest item from a Sharepoint list?

I am using Sharepoint and InfoPath 2010.  If there are different solutions for a browser-based vs a client-based form please indicate that.  I would prefer to not use code-behind, but I can if that is required.

Q: I have a SP list and I would like to get the newest item in the list.  By newest I mean get the item with the latest Created column date/time value.

    TIA.

You'd have to lock the list so that others couldn't submit while you were querying.

That kind of list-lock doesn't exist in SharePoint.

However, you can do a double submit to get the ID of the item. Just submit without close and then query to get the ID. Set the results in your form and submit again. Good as done.
