Tally Value from Multiple Single Text Boxes

I am in the process of building a performance rating form for employees.  There are 8 sections to the form, each with a set of radio buttons with the rating of Needs Improvement, Satisfactory, Meets, Exceeds, and Far Exceeds.  When a radio button is marked for a section, the employee rating is saved.

At the end of this form, I need to find a way to count the number of each rating above and provide an overall rating for the employee.

My two thoughts were to assign a number value to each radio button instead of the name and then do a translation at the end to the actual rating of the employee.

My issue exists with how to write an expression for counting the value from multiple text boxes.  I would use a rule but would like this to update automatically.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hi

Take a look at http://www.eliasen.dk/files/tallies.xsn - I have prepared a sample of how it could be done.

The trick is to leverage XPath and the count function. Take a look at the default values of the fields of the Totals section of the data source. Notice that you need to mark "Edit XPath" property when looking at the formula to see the entire XPath.

    Questions?

Thank you very much.  This was exactly what I was looking for.  I was looking at the count function but I didn't know how to use it for one and second how to perform multiple instances.  I appreciate the help!

    Hi

I had a look at the sample you uploaded for user to see and this is exactly what i am looking for.  I am working on a large project that has 7 moduels.  Within each module there are a subset of questions that need to be evaluated with a rating of 0 1 2 3 and n/a.  I need to be able to count the number of "0" selections and the the number of "1" selections etc.  I see from your example that you were able to do this upon selection.  Can you explain how this was done so that I can make my form work.  I am fairly green so will need to be patient as I work through this.

Thanks for your help on this
