I hope this is not a dumb question....

I was wondering how one would use the contact or translate functions to do the following.......Mark Smith  to [email protected] 

I have a hyper link that will set up an email (using Outlook) with the name in text box but I dont know how to get the period "." in between the names. 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, you could try the translate function and replace the space character with the period.

translate(Insert Field or Group, " ", ".")

Use the Insert Field or Group button to navigate to your field with your name in it.

So you know, this has the potential to be fragile, depending on your environment - if someone has a name with multiple spaces, but only one is replaced with a dot in the email, you may have issues - Mary van der Haven would become Mary.van.der.Haven - just something to be aware of if spaces are not consistently replaced with dots in actual email addresses.

I tried that and it would not work..... but now you suggested it and it works great....

I must have been typing it in wrong..

 The name fields are pre determined and selected from a drom down..  thank you for thinking ahead...
