InfoPath Dev

When I use dropdown lists (and other controls like checkboxes and radio buttons) I link the values to a data source. The intent is to be able to use the dropdown to set the value but also display it when the form is reopened. This does not happen. It sets the value ok but when reopened it displays the default value. This is frustrating because I cannot see what the value is (I have got a less than perfect workaround where I use conditional formatting to represent the value - obviosly this is not the way to go).

It seems that only text boxes worked as required.

Are you saving the xml output and re-opening that file?

I have the form linked to a database. When I open the form it is populated with data from the database. The form also updates the database. I am having problems with controls that are linked to a data source. I do not have the problems when the control is stand-alone and xml based.

OK, do you do it through direct connection or Web Services? If the former, do you refresh the data sources when the form loads?

I do it through a direct connection. And yes, the data source is refreshed when the form loads. It i also refreshed/updated with different information while the form is open.

I am having this problems with check boxes as well. When I reopen the form all values are blank. They do not represent to previously selected values now saved in the data source.

I suspect this is another one of those Infopath issues that is a limitation of the software rather than a fault that can be fixed.

I have not experienced that problem. So you have a checkbox and the valid values persisted to your database would be something like 0 for unchecked and 1 for checked? So when you open your InfoPath form to update a record you are saying there are no value for the checkbox?
