    Service Pack Installations

If I am guessing right (following on from my previous Q) then I can not use Infopath to the full without the Service Pack 2.

When attempting to install this I am getting a message that a Cab file is missing from Frontpage which does not incidentally exist on Office installation disk, nor anywhere apparently.

I have searched for two hours on this problem on MS Tech site, also lots of forums and loads of other people are posing the same question as me, but as yet not one single answer?

There has to be one as everyone here that is using InfoPath seems to have the options the SP integrates into it, so has anyone got a SKU017.cab file I can borrow?

Or am I the only one that has had this problem! Did you manage to download the SP Pack OK?

PS: I really am sorry for all the Q's as I know that newbie questions are annoying, but I am well capable of making this software fly (if it does what I think it can) and I promise to contribute to answers int he future.

But I first need to get going with it and just can't.

    Hi,

    Did you read this:

Yes I did read that, and it meant not a lot at the time, although I did re-install and ensured everything was as it should be under my current user name etc.

BUT having just skimmed it again, I think I may know what the problem is... not sure, but perhaps it's because I installed office 2003 via my home CD (home edition) But Infopath was installed on my PC by my works IT Dept (I work half from work and half from home) so maybe they installed the Professional Edition?

Bugger me, I wonder if that's it? Off to investigate.

Actually that doesn't make sense at all, as the program that the SP installation file stops on is Frontpage, which I have installed from my CD.. Back to square 1 then!

    UPDATE:

The LIS (from MS Tech page) Option does not work either, because when trying to install that it also asks for the same Cab File when it reaches the FrontPage part of the installation.

Going back to basics, you have obviously managed to download this service Pack OK.

    a) was your comp 'Net-Ready' when you got it or did you manually load your software from disks.

    b) What Perating System R U Using?

    c) Did you download the Service Pack 1 and then SP 2 over it, or SP2 from scratch?

Just trying to eliminate the obvious here!

Do you have downloaded the SP2 file or do you autoupdate from the microsoft homepage?

    ......

OH MY GOD!!! I have done it without even realising it...

The key was not in installing the LIS program, but in installing a tool to 'disable it' on your comp.

To be honest, I couldn;t even install it, but seem to have installed the program that disables it and re-ran the SP Installation file and guess what?

I have the Rules options and the Data Connections options majically appeared on my Tool Menu.

THANK YOU ALL... cos without your input I wouldn;t have kept going, this is so seriously exciting lol

(am off to post this answer on some forums on the web to try and help some other poor sod from tearing their hair out).

Why can't Microsoft just speak in laymans terms ever?
