    Information would be appreciated!

Hello, I have a few questions that I think should be able to be answered here.  They are not specific questions but I was wondering if I would be able to accomplish what I want with Infopath.

I work for a small lab, and we are wanting to develop a information management system, here is what we want it to be able to do.

Enter data from chain of custody

generate a form based on chosen package, and number of samples (we have several different packages available), or build a custom one.  This form would be used to enter data as it is analyzed.  The form ideally would ideally have rows for each sample in that set.  All of this data would be stored in an access database.

Search and edit by searching for different options (lab number, project ID, client, etc).

    Print off completed data sheets.

Generate bottle labels, and be able to print them.

access database should be able to be accessed from about 3 computers or so... probably more.

The form generation part would be the most beneficial, although we are a small lab we have a pretty high sample volume.

I have almost no experience with infopath (wish me luck lol) but do have some C++, java experience.

There really is not a time frame on this, just hoping that I could create something that would streamline our process, what we do now works, although cumbersome.

Thank you for any help!  If you need more details let me know.  This is a new thought, and project have not had much time to sit down and flow through everything that should be done / what needs to be done.

EDIT - Forgot a few things

Is this out of the scope of this program?  From what I have read it dosent seem so, but It does seem that it will be complex.

Is there something else that could be used with more ease.

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

I don't believe it is out of the scope of the program but it would be quite complicated.  You might want to download trial versions of qRules and DBXL which could help you avoid any manual coding.  If you feel the form is beyond your capabilities, you may want to consider consulting services to create the form then teach you how to maintain it.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for the input, I had a feeling that It would be complicated, which is ok I'm up for a challenge!  Like I stated time is not an issue for this (well within reason I would like to have a functioning program within a year).  This should help me relearn some programing skills, and probably make me a more patient person.  Thanks for the tip on qRules it looks like it could be beneficial, and is within the price range of what we are looking for.

Good luck and be sure to let us know how it turns out.
