Just the act of hitting the button is enough to tell InfoPath to use a different DLL than the qRules DLL. Try re-injecting your template.

    Okay,

I rebuilt step-by-step and...everything works.  I wonder now if you may be on to something with the code issue.  I attempted to re-inject qRules and started receiving an error about custom code.  The box that opens that I am supposed to fix is empty.

If I hit the custom code (vice rules) by accident, how do I ensure that Qrules isn't broken?

I usually go under Programming in Form Options and click "Remove Code" then re-inject.

    I will try that.  Thanks.

    Okay,

I solved my probem with validation errors with you help.  Second page has required fields.

If execute the command on page 1 (which does not save page 2 to list), you get validation errors becuase unrelated fields in page 2 that are required are not filled out.

Any work around for this without brute force filling out those values?

Well, you see, the form schema doesn't know or care what view the user is on. It only cares about those fields which are set to not be blank.

Perhaps add a field that you can leverage for custom validation for your required fields? Or you can use the qRules ClearErrors command.....

It is all starting to make sense now - multiple errors are so hard to troubleshoot.  Particularly when everything works and hitting one buttons screws everything up without an error message.

    Thanks for your help.

Okay, found one more problem related to qrules and this post chain.

If you read the history of this question, you will note that my problem first manifested itself when I uploaded my form as an admin approved form and subsequently tried to use as a webform.

Well, same issue.  Everything works great from any machine as an Infopath Native form, but when I click the button that sets the command field, no activity.  Result, Success, and Error fields are not changed; no indication of saving, and the list is not updated.

Now, here is the interesting part, when I click "close" under the edit ribbon on the webform, all my changes to the page one form are saved to the server.  I expected this to occur when I clicked the button to set the command field.  However, I have similar buttons on page 2 and 3 that save to other lists and these buttons work as expected - click button, forms saves instantly without the need to "close" form.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the design behaviour of qrules in a webform?

Set the postback on the controls in question to "Always".
