    Notification when editing forms

Hi guys, just got a quick and hopefully easy question lol

I want to be able to have some form of notification, either a message box (but do realise its constraints with web enabled forms) or an expression field with particular rules that appears when a user is within a form and should not be edited. Its just to notify other users that someone is currently within the form and may be editing. Had a situation where 2 people logged in at the same time and were both making the changes to the form.

The created forms are clicked on through a document sharepoint library, so anyone with access to that library can click on it and not know who is in there etc

What is the easiest way I could go about this?

    Cheers

    Hi DSanchez,

I'm assuming you are talking about browser forms. Take a look at Hilary's blog on Checkin/Checkout. That should help. We also have a new XTP coming out for this and I will ask Mel to add.

Ok will do, hopefully its not overly complicated hehe

edit: I found her blog and read its best utilised for 2010, I am using IP 2007, are there examples of this method working with 2007?

    Hi dsanchez,

    From Hilary's blog post:

I should mention I'm leveraging some functionality that is only available in SharePoint 2010  (and only seems to work correctly in forms opened in the browser) to find out if the form is already checked out (I underline this so you don't walk all the way through this and then fuss about your version of SharePoint being the wrong one or wonder why it doesn't work in client).

I remember doing this in InfoPath 2007 before and didn't have issues so it should work on yours too, as long as you have SharePoint 2010.
