    Need conceptual guidance

    Hello,

I need some conceptual help please.  I have SharePoint 2010.

I have a custom WebPart that is displaying some composite information in the form of a table.  When I click on a row of the table, I want my InfoPath form to be started and provided with a couple of values that specify values from a SP list.  I want to use InfoPath to display all values from the SP list that meet the criteria of the two values.  Much like an SQL select * from table where a=2 and b='abc'.  The values for a and b will be provided from the calling WebPart.

    How do I:

    1. Call the InfoPath form in order to get it to start and display?  I would like to mimic what SP does when you ask it to use InfoPath to display a list item.
    2. Get InfoPath to utilize calling parameters to set internal filtering criteria?

    TIA.

    Hi MikeyFEV1 and welcome,

    1. you can use a link to launch the form. the link is to the xsn file on SharePoint. to open in the browser you need to pass a parameter to the form. Something like:
      http://<servername>/_layouts/formserver.aspx?XsnLocation=/FormServerTemplates/formtemplate.xsn&OpenIn=Browser
    2. you can pass parameters to the form using the query parameters, but you will need code to access the parameters (or you can use qRules which supports reading the input parameters via rules). here's the idea:
      http://mySharePointSite/_layouts/formserver.aspx?XsnLocation=/FormServerTemplates/qRulesForms.xsn&OpenIn=Browser&param1=foo

Hope this helps a wee bit...

     This is great; thank you!

How do I utilize the parameter value in InfoPath?  How do I refer to the value of an externally passed parameter?
