Repeating table with text box controls - can not insert new rows to table

I have a repeating table with several columns and two rows.  Top row is header, bottom row hold text box.  I need to add one more column but it does not fit so instead I'd like to add a two more rows shift half the columns to the bottom two new rows.  It's not easy just to insert additional rows but when I do and then I move the existing text boxes to the new row I get error message so the text boxes become useless.  If I drag the text box control from the data source, an entire repeating table comes with it.

I tryed starting over with a new repeating table and it only allows me to insert the number of columns.  It says I can add rows later but as described above, not really.

This doesn't make sense.  What am I doing wrong?  I want a repeating table that holds 7 columns and 4 rows.  Row 1 - headers, Row 2 - text boxes, Row 3 = headers, row 4 = text boxes.

    Hi there.

IP doesn't allow for multiple-row-at-a-time insertions, or for special not-data rows. Instead, you can use a repeating section with a layout table inside that is 7x4:

    Header1 Header2 Header3 Header4
    Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4
    Header5 Header6 Header7
    Field5 Field6 Field7

That all goes in your repeating section. It isn't really a workaround either, because you want corresponding data to be in the same (data) row.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the quick reply.  It confirms what I've discovered.  It's not ideal but I can live with it.  Have a nice day!

Well, you can't have the 'header', but you can certainly put two text box controls one under the other in the same cell and they will hold the two separate values.

Your header could be something like Header1/Header2.

    e.g.

    Header1/Header2      Header3     Header4
    TextBox1                  TextBox3   TextBox4
    TextBox2
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    TextBox1                  TextBox3   TextBox4
    TextBox2

     Oh, and another thought.

Have two repeating tables for the same repeating group under each other and delete the columns from each table that you don't want.
When either table has a row added, the corresponding row will appear in the above too. But whilst this matches your described requirement, I think you will find it's not visually easy for a user to interpret/read.

Oh! that's a good thought.  I probably will try it out but I agree about not wanting to confuse the user. In my case I used tab index to control the order the curser moves which should help the user as it is.

     Thank you.
