    Pulldowns, Buttons & Data Connections

I am having a problem with a pulldown. 2 buttons and data connections. In the form I am developing, the pulldown contains 4 options -- Approve; Approved, Need 2nd Signer; Requires SOM Approval; Declined.

The "OM Final Decision" button contains 2 Rules, which cover Approved and Declined. The data connections connected to those 2 Rules work fine. However, the "Submit to Sr. Operations Mgr" button is the issue

It covers "Approved, Need 2nd Signer; Requires SOM Approval". There is a rule for "Approved, Need 2nd Signer"(Rule 2) and one for "Requires SOM Approval" (Rule 1). The button/process works correct when "Requires SOM Approval" (Rule 1) is selected. But if "Approved, Need 2nd Signer" (Rule 2)  is selected, it initates the data connections on Rule 1 and then proceeds to Rule 2.

    See attached screen shot.

Would it be possible for you to post the whole condition of both rules?

    Hi,

what I have learned about InfoPath is, that the role of 'and' and 'or' between two conditions is some kind of unclear.

I would try to replace your 'or'-conditions with 'and'-conditions.Then, try it again.

The "and" and "or" are complicated for alot of people.

@Mgauf - your rules are technically correct, but they will not work as intended.

The reason they are not going to work as intended is because of the way the rule is written.

Your rule 1 says if OM1 equals "something" and if OMSID equals "something" OR if OMSID equals "J979130", if OMSID ever equals "J979130", it will run the rule.

To fix it, you will have to fix the rule, the first two parts are correct, it's after the OR that needs to be fixed:

    Your rule should read:

    • OM1 equals "something" AND
    • OMSID equals "number1" OR
    • OM1 equals "something" AND
    • OMSID equals "number2"

Think about it like this, AND are in parenthesis, OR are not.

So with the rule we have written, it would be (OM1 AND OMSID) OR (OM1 AND OMSID), but the rule you originally had was (OM1 AND OMSID) OR (OMSID)

It looks like the same thing for the other rule you posted as well.

    Hope this helps.
