Seting the Custom Task Pane Width

Is there any way to set the custom task pane width.  Every one of my forms has a "how to fill out this form" custom task pane.  But anytime the user opens a form they have to manually widen the pane so they can read it.  I have tried to set the width in the HTML of the resource pages I use but that doesn’t seem to do anything.  I've look this up on the web but cannot find anything that references the task pane in InfoPath.  Lots of stuff on creating them for Excel and Word, but the task pane in those applications actually has a properties page that can be set.  Is there anything like that for InfoPath. As usual thanks.Steven

Hi Steven, I am pretty sure there is not way to do this automatically.  InfoPath saves "state" so that if a user changes the size of their taskpane the next time they open the form it keeps the setting that they just saved.

For example if you move the taskpane to the bottom of your form or to the top or left any other form you open will open with the taskpane in that location until you move it again.

I don't think this changed in 2010 either.

Just tested it in InfoPath 2010 Filler and no luck.

I found the TaskPanes collection and TaskPane object but no width property.
The CurrentView.Window has a width property but it does not affect the remaining width of the application window.
Even tried Javascript from the task pane, still no luck.

After a bit more Googling, ended up here http://blogs.3sharp.com/davidg/archive/2008/01/23/4668.aspx, which was great to learn how to change the URL of the loaded file but still no width.

Microsoft? Clearly giving us a hard coded 187px wide task pane is not enough.

Yes I have pretty much given up on this one.  Sometimes I think that Microsoft is just not thinking it through with this application.  To many simple things cannot be done or need massive work a rounds to accomplish. thank you for your time and effort though.

No question InfoPath isn't perfect and while some simple things can't be done easily there are a ton of things that can be done very easily!
