    forms saved as .xml

    hi i'm a newbie in sharepoint and infopath...

    i'm implementing a sharepoint site in our company... i was successful in creating infopath web-compatible forms and also saving them in the document library but when a user in client machine wants to open it if he has infopath installed , document will open in infopath application instead of web browser... and if the user doesn't have infopath installed a xml code script will be shown like this :

    ?mso-infoPathSolution
    name="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:infopath:fff:-myXSD-2005-10-21T21-12-27" solutionVersion="1.0.0.4" productVersion="12.0.0.0" PIVersion="1.0.0.0" href="http://82.205.156.29/FormServerTemplates/fff.xsn"
    ?>
    −
     <?mso-application
    progid="InfoPath.Document" versionProgid="InfoPath.Document.2"
    ?>
    −
    <my:expenseReport xml:lang="en-US">
    −
    <my:employee>
    <my:name/>
    <my:identificationNumber/>
    <my:emailAddress/>
    <my:jobTitle/>

    do u have any ideas what should i do

    ps. i just suspected that when i create forms they are saved as *.xml instead of *.xsn

    when i upload an *.xsn form i don't have any problems with editing it in web or infopath

     could anyone please help me.... my problem is that users that don't have infopath installed couldn't open or modify browser-compatible saved .xml forms....

    they don't have problem opening templates and submitting them...

    I was able to duplicate the issue.  To resolve, look in the form options under Security and Trust.  You have full trust checked.  Change it Automatically determine or Domain.  Then when you publish, select form library or site content type.  I think if you publish it locally and then upload to a form library, it still isn't going to open in the browser.  If you are still having issues, let me know if you are using IP 2007 or 2010 to design your forms and I can give you more detail.

     thanks for reply....

     i have tested those ways too... i don't have problem form template in browser and also no problem submitting information...

    my problem is that submitted .xml forms couldn't be opened in browser...( they could be opened by infopath if installed)

    The form you uploaded was set to full trust and could not be published as a browser based form directly to a site collection.  Unless you are posting it via Central Admin - there is no way that .xml would open in the browser via SharePoint. If your other forms are configured correctly and have the same problem, perhaps it is not a form issue?  Have you talked to your systems adminstrators and verified that you are running  MOSS and that InfoPath Form services is configured to allow browser based forms?

    Also check the Site Collection features and make sure Office SharePoint Server Enterprise features are activated.

     yes i made it full trust and after i uploaded it from central administration and applied it to site collection...

    so it means there's no way that i could open .xml submitted forms in browser?

    "Unless you are posting it via Central Admin - there is no way that .xml would open in the browser via SharePoint. "    - my comment was specific to the form that you uploaded to this site for us to review.  My company only uses browser based forms, and they are all open in the browser.  There is something different about your environment or your process.

    You may already know this, but if not, it might help --   The .xml files are based on the .xsn template, so if your template isn't  configured/published just right, the.xml files based on that template will not render correctly.  If the .xsn is deleted or the person opening the .xml don't have access to the .xsn, it will fail to open or may open just display the xml instead of rendering it in form view.

    If you open your .xml files, you will see a reference to the xsn in the header: <?mso-infoPathSolution name="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:infopath:MyForm:-myXSD-2010-03-15T15-35-03" solutionVersion="1.0.0.116" productVersion="12.0.0.0" PIVersion="1.0.0.0" href="http://sharepointsite.com/sites/SiteCollection/FormServerTemplates/MyForm.xsn"?>

    So more questions... Did you verify in Cental Admin under InfoPath Form services that browser based forms area allowed?  Have you been able to get any forms published in sharepoint to open in the browser? Does it work for you and just not other people?  You activated the form on the site collection, after that did you add it to a form library?  Did you verify in site collection features that the form and SharePoint Enterprise features are both activated?

    yes i think forms are published correctly... cause i can get forms in browser and also submitting them... of course forms are activated to site collection... yes a added it... as i said i could get forms in browser for submitting... my problem is that i couldn't open submitted forms in browser( i don't have problem and editing in infopath)

    yes sharepoint enteprise features and form features are both activated,,,,

    i just found out another problem... information and data that users fill in the forms aren't shown in columns but when i open submitted forms i could see that forms are filled...

    i think this recent issue does have some relations with previous issues

    Open the .xml using notepad.  Does it have the header that includes the form name and location?
