    Redirect page

    hi,

was wondering..... I have on a sharepoint page, a link that opens up a infopath form.  once the user completes the form, the form is submitted to a Sharepoint library.  I have this form close after the user hits submit.  What then happens is once the form closes, it goes to the Sharepoint library where the form is submitted.  We do NOT want this.  Is it possible that once the form is closed, that it will go to the sharepoint page where the link to open the form resides or any other sharepoint page?  How do you do this?

     thanks.

okay, been working on this one and i changed the "Source" parameter from:

    http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2FTEST%20Database&Source=http%3A%2F%2F wssdas%2E intranet%2E dow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2Fdefault%2Easpx&DefaultItemOpen=1

    to

    http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2FTEST%20Database&Source= http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/default.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1

When i go to initiate the form, i get an error stating that i have a error 5337 and to hit continue to resume, and once i hit the "continue" in the dialog box, it does go ahead and opens the form.  It does allow me to submit and when the form closes, it goes to the appropiate page.   So i am really close......

i believe it lies in this part - http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/default.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1  and i think it has to do with the ascii numbers for colons, slashes and periods....  and i am not sure why i would need the DefaultItemOpen=1 tag at the end.......

    so i reedited this to say:   http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2FTEST%20Database&Source= http%3A%2F%2F wssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow.com%2Frsga%2Fqau%2Fdefault%2Easpx&DefaultItemOpen=1

But i got this error: "The URL http:// wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/default.aspx is an unsupported relative URL. Use an absolute URL or prefix with '~sitecollection', for a site-collection-relative URL."

so i then tried adding the "OpenIn=Browser" inplace of the DefaultItemOpen=1 and I get another error but with this one, it says error 5337 and if I click "continue", the form will resume.........

so if i leave it alone by just pasting in the address, i get a error 5337 and if i change it (ascii numbers for slashes and periods), i get The URL http:// wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/default.aspx is an unsupported relative URL. Use an absolute URL or prefix with '~sitecollection', for a site-collection-relative URL.  so I am confused......

    any ideas???

I do this all the time but without the &DefaultOpen parameter.  Strip out all the extra parameters for testing - i.e. xsnlocation, savelocation and the default.aspx extension.

    http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&Source= http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow.com%2Frsga%2Fqau

    Good luck

For whatever reason  It asks me if I want to open or save this file.... which does not make any sense.

Please explain the logic here.  If you take out the savelocation, how does it know where to save the file?

And why does it now open in Infopath vs. staying a web-browser form as it was before?  Is there a way to force it back to opening as a webform?

    Issue Fixed!!!

Once you complete your form, and to redirect to the “home” page, this is what I needed to do:

    Example:

    http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2FTEST%20Database&Source=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/default.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1

    or

    http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2FTEST%20Database&Source= http%3A%2F%2F wssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow.com%2Frsga%2Fqau%2Fdefault%2Easpx&DefaultItemOpen=1

     TO

     http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/rsga/qau/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://wssdas.intranet.dow.com/FormServerTemplates/QAU%20Switchboard%201.0.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas%2Eintranet%2Edow%2Ecom%2Frsga%2Fqau%2FTEST%20Database&Source=http%3A%2F%2Fwssdas.intranet.dow.com%2Frsga%2Fqau%2Fdefault.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1

this part, you will need to use a Encoder/Decoder page (http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/).  Copy your URL and paste your redirect page after &Source= URL &DefaultItemOpen=1

make sure you eliminate ALL spaces as this will also lead to unnecessary errors.

    Hey, Chris:

Thanks for posting the solution to help others.

Just to re-iterate -- if a browser form is opened from a link, you can set the page the user is returned to on close by setting the Source parameter. Per MSDN:

    Source

The location to which the user will be redirected when the form is closed. The URL must be in the same site collection or an error will be returned.

How about closing browser or tab when closing the form?  Can that be accomplished?

  • 02-22-2011 03:21 PM In reply to

Not via query parameters to my knowledge.

If I add a button to the form called Cancel which has been setup to close the form, does this apply to that?  The Cancel button i added takes me to the list which I do NOT want to do........ :(

I'm confused. What do you want Cancel to do?

Oh I am sorry if I did not clarify.  I just wanted the Cancel button to:

    1.) Close the form

2.) Go back to a specific Sharepoint site.   I was hoping to be able to designate a URL in the rules but i dont see how this can be done.

    Hi Chris,

Random idea but I wonder if you just use the link under your button, or just a "Close" link in the form that you click on to navigate back. That might have the same effect as close and go back to specific sharepoint site. Maybe it pops up a new window though. Can you check?

Thanks pat.  Created some text and put in a hyperlink to "Close" the form".   Yes you are right, it pops up a new window and doesn't close the form.  :(

    Almost.......
