Mapping data from InfoPath document panel to Word document properties

    Hi,

I have developed a control panel for a word 2007 document using InfoPath 2007. I have added it to my word document however when i try to set up properties in my document which are tagged to a field on my document panel the property in my word document isn't automatically updated. I'm thinking there must be a step that i am missing - i.e. mapping the data between my InfoPath document panel and the property in my word doco. Can someone please provide some advice on how to get this mapping to work? I'm fairly new to developing document panels for word and adding properties in my word doco. I've been given a piece of work to alter an existing word template but just stuck on this step.

    Many thanks,

    Sarah

How did you do this "mapping"?  I'm not familiar with a way to map between fields.  The way I do it is I use Insert > Quick Parts, and choose the SharePoint fields to insert them into my Word doc.  Then, they are the same field, and there is no mapping.  Whatever you put in that field in the Word doc reflects in SharePoint (and in the DIP), and it works in reverse.  If you insert data into the DIP, it reflects in the Word doc.  Even if you don't use the DIP, any metadata in the SharePoint item will show up in the Word doc (and vice versa) if you use Quick Parts.

THis particular feature isn't really related to InfoPath.  Yes, the DIP is an InfoPath form, but it works nicely even if you don't touch InfoPath (it's built-in), and inserting SharePoint fields in the Word doc isn't affected by your DIP form.  Is there something special you're doing with the DIP?

I figured it out eventually - just use the Word 2007 Content Control Toolkit. We have developed our own custom document panel using InfoPath 2007 to enable company specific controls and to put some extra validation and processing around them. When you do this the fields from the document panel don't appear in Quick Parts, or Custom properties for that matter. You need to map the field from the InfoPath datasource to the Word property. You can do it programatically too:

    Thanks for responding
