Open/Save Security Warning Message When Opening Infopath Forms in Sharepoint

Sorry if this comes out as a large block of text, my message has spaces the preview does not... This has been a problem from the start for my company. We have been using Infopath and Sharepoint heavily for a couple of months. Converted a paper document into a complex Infopath form. With the heavy use this is adding extra time for each user to do their job. When opening any infopath form from sharepoint all users receive a File download/Security download pop up. It asks The user if they would like to open the file or save the file. No option to always perform this action. We are running Sharepoint 3.0, all users are running internet explorer 8 for sharepoint. Users are using a mix of infopath 2007 and infopath 2010. All users using xp service pack 3 with latest updates except for 1 on windows 7. Forms have been published as sharepoint libraries dedicated to one particular form. Notable points: Happens to forms both with and without custom code. Files showing up in sharepoint searches and in the relevant documents page sections show the XML file image, form libraries show the infopath file type image. Opening both from sharepoint searches and the form libraries gives the same pop up box. I have tried changing the settings in Windows Expolorer's File types for XML, XSN and XSF with not success, by unchecking the confirm after download option. I have done searches already and these posts did not help/solve the problem: http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/greg/archive/2004/07/28/Prevent-the-File-Download-Security-Warning.aspx, http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/1557/4751.aspx#4751, http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/3987/15283.aspx#15283 One of the posts mentions changing registry settings, no links to sources and have not been able to track down any solutions yet. Picture attached. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hmm, I never have the luxury of working with client forms (can't guarantee every user has both Windows and the proper version of InfoPath on their machine), but in my test forms, this does not happen.  Unfortunately, my environment is nowhere near yours, because I only maintain 2010 test farms on my laptop now, and my clients are all Win7 or W2K8R2.  It's normal to get that prompt when linking from somewhere other than the form library (i.e. search results, DVWP, custom hyperlink), but not from the form library itself.  My first thought are your browser settings, but not for file types.  Let me try some things to see what happens.

Firstly, is your SharePoint site placed in the Local Intranet or Trusted zone for IE for all machines?

Hi, Thanks for the response. On the computer I was using, running windows xp I had added our local intranet site to the trusted zone for IE, which did not resolve the problem. I will attempt this again later today on other users workstations to see if this fixes the problem and report back. This may be relevant but initially on our one windows 7 workstation I was receiving the same popup open/save message. However after changing what program opened the .xml file extension (changed it to infopath) it did resolve the issue with the windows 7 workstation. There are noticeable differences between the file extension management in windows 7 and xp, which probably accounts for why it worked with 7 but not xp. The one difference is you can select which program to use in windows 7 but there are no advanced options like in xp.

You shouldn't have to do that, though.  I've never made that change in Win7, XP. or any other client.

The default program for both windows xp and windows 7 was XML Editor and not infopath for all workstations that I have checked so far. Changing the default program to infopath on the windows 7 machine without our sharepoint site specifically added to the trusted intranet sites in IE, resolved the problem for the windows 7 machine. By default the .xml extension is set to open with an office xml editor. I am able to change the advanced settings and uncheck confirm open after download and I am able to specify whether to open or edit by default. None of these options fix the problem. If I change the .xml to open with infopath the advanced options are no longer available and it does not solve the problem. I dont suppose having custom security certificates and coding in the forms would effect this confirmation popup. We do have a security certificate popup which we are able to bypass by installing the security certificates on each machine. Although we have the same confirmation popup with forms that contain no custom coding. This pop occurs when opening the forms from the form library.
