Re: Display form submit success/failure message

    Hi,

Sorry about the confusion - I was pertaining to the 'Show a message' option in the rule actions. You know when you go to your Form Submit Rules > click New > Add, there's no option to show a message for web forms. Please see the attached screenshot.

I'm guessing that your 2007 web form is configured to submit using a data connection rather than rules. With the former option (Submit Options > Allow users to submit this form > Send form data to a single destination) - your advanced display messages will appear as soon as the form finishes submitting using the destination or data connection you specified. Can you please confirm whether your 2007 version uses this option or the latter which is to submit via rules?

You might also attach your templates in your reply so we can take a quick look.

    Thanks,

    Hi Mel,

Must have been my confusion on the message options... I understand now. You are correct that my 2007 web form submits using a data connection rather than rules.

I have attached my 2010 form with the hope that you can see something I did wrong, or have some suggestion.

Thanks again for your help, Maureen

    Hi Maureen,

Have you actually purchased qRules already?  I tried to find a purchase record but have been unable to do so.  I would suggest taking this support issue offline and working directly with our support team.  We do offere a version of qRules with 30 day email support and also offer qRules support incidents for $49.99 (resolution of a single issue).

You can send me a private message if you want to discuss more or you can call me at 877.544.2389

    Hi Ted,

Yes, our company has purchased qRules already, including Email support services (however, I do not have the email address of where to send the support issues -- only the VP does & he's not in the office. I do have the purchase confirmation info, though). I will call you today.

    thanks, Maureen

Re: Display form submit success/failure message

    Hi, Maureen:

I hope I'm not overlooking some detail you provided earlier -- if I have, I apologize in advance.

First off, this final post where you include a screenshot of an IP 2007 form -- is this form set up with the same submit rules as the form where you are not getting your submit dialogs? Or is this a different form, and the screen shot was merely to demonstrate that browser forms do display custom submit messages in dialogs? (I believe the earlier confusion in this thread may have had to do with dialogs being displayed as the result of a rule action -- in browser forms we don't have the option to display a dialog in a standard rule. You are correct, of course, that we do have the option to display custom success or failure messages in a submit action).

Is the ShPListSubmit data connection that are submitting to in your earlier screenshots a data connection to a form library?

I created a test form with qRules injected -- two versions, one IP 2007 and one IP 2010. I published both to their respective ShP Servers... both have custom submit messages set up. Both forms displayed their messages on success or failure. So it appears to me as if qRules is not interfering with this functionality, nor that the functionality has changed from IP 2007 to IP 2010.

If you can attach a copy of your form template here (or in response to the email I sent you earlier today) that would be great. I'd like to take a look at it so I might have a better chance of seeing what is going on.

Re: Display form submit success/failure message

    Hi Hilary,

You are correct in your understanding that I submitted the IP 2007 form screenshot to demonstrate that browser forms do display custom submit messages. I was hoping to use the same message from my 2007 form (that was configured in the Advanced box "show this message") in the 2010 version of the form.

There are differences between the 2007 and 2010 versions of the IP form submit setup. I will send you a copy of both forms via Email to you. I think it would help if I explain my purpose and hence why I am using qRules and the changes to the submit option. Perhaps you can advise if I'm taking the correct approach or whether I should do something different.

On our Sharepoint 2007 extranet site, each customer fills out their contact & network information in their form (sensitive information). They access their own form from their own secure home page and submit back to that same document library. This has been working well and the submit failed/success message displays.

In our soon to be rolled out (once this issue is solved) Sharepoint 2010 site, we were looking to consolidate the information from each customer's home page to one separate, secure list in Sharepoint. This is so that our customer support team would can have a centralized list instead of going to each customer's home page. I was able to configure this list to work using qRules (the documentation & functionality are good). However, I can't seem to have the same submit success/failed prompt appear. There are differences between the 2007 & 2010 IP forms, as you can see. Now I have 2010 set up to submit the xml data to the SP list, and just save the form into the library that the customer accessed it from (i.e. their own secure home page). My new message instructs them to click submit AND save the form. If there are ways to automate this (via setup of a rule, etc), maybe I don't even need the messages. Although it's always reassuring to have a successful submission message.

Does this all make sense? If not, please email or call me and I will clarify.

    Thanks, Maureen

Re: Display form submit success/failure message

We've been emailing back and forth this week, but I wanted to add a final message to this thread just for the sake of some closure.

The reason custom submit messages were not displaying in the browser was because the submit action was not being called. That is, rules were calling submit data connections, but that isn't the same as having a button set to submit (rather than rules) or using the InfoPath submit button.
