Hello,

I have kind of looked over this since I have been developing my form, but I would like to fix it now. I have several drop-down lists that are connected to my secondary data source. They populate correctly, but the first option is always blank. I would like to set the default selected row as the first item returned from the secondary data source, not a blank row. One problem this causes is that it throws an error when a user selects a legitmate row and then overwrites that choice with the selection of the blank row. I tried adding a filter when the drop-down populated so that it would only display choices where "_name_ is not blank", but that didn't seem to work either.

Hi Matt,

Have you tried to set a default value in your node (main document) by code? Since you can read the data to be displayed in your drop down from your secondary source, can't you grab one and use it as a default value?

Is the "Cannot be blank" checkbox is checked in your drop-down?

Matt...I just ran into this same situation. Did you find an easier solution? I have some dropdowns I am filling in from some data sources where the first item is blank but there is a value like "00" for blank. Right now I have two blanks in the combo and I want to default to "00" but I do not want to see two blanks in the dropdown.

Unfortunately InfoPath always adds the blank item so there is no way to get rid of the double blank. :(
