"Type" Searching Sharepoint list and populating repeating table.

This has driven me nuts for a few weeks.  I have searched the web ALOT and can never really lockdown what i am asking which i would think is not that difficult.....

I have a field named "Study Number" which is a text field for data entry.   This is the search field.  What I need: User types in term they are looking for and the results return in a repeating table from a Sharepoint list.

1.) Dropdowns are easy to setup but because of the number of study numbers, this would be way too long.  Can't this be typed in???

2.) How do you get the "find" button to fire off and populate the repeating table???

3.) Does the repeating table populate the with several rows of data (pending there are), or do I have to manually "insert" a row for each result.  Also do I have to create a "group" for the terms I am searching on or do I create a table and from the data source, drag over???

4.) is there a tutorial someplace that i can look at???

5.) Becuase of my successes with the Excel To XML QDabra tool, I just downloaded the qRules but not sure how to use them in this situation.  Is there a tutorial for this situation???

Please let  me know.  thank you.

Write a web service to fetch the sharepoint list data with ref to the search string and the return type of web-method to be a dataset. Create a data connection of type both submit and receive, exposing the web method. There after execute the data connection with the Find button rule. NOTE : To Fire up the Find button, you need to define set of rules on the button which execute the data connection. The result of execution is a dataset(repeating table schema).

You don't need a Web Service for this. qRules includes filterOwssvr function that lets you filter a SharePoint query based on field data in your form. qRules also contains CopyTable and Insert that let you copy the values you query from your query secondary data source into your main data source. Then you can use them in your form. You can even use qRules SubmitToSharePointList to save the values back to SharePoint. Change tracking can be implemented to prevent you from overwriting values that someone else changed. Take a look at this link which describes how to use SubmitToSharePoint.

We developed qRules to serve this forum and provide a library of commonly requested features so that you don't have to spend time writing code. We provide a free trial and if you find it useful (and we know you will), the small cost of the library helps us continue running this forum. It's good for you because you don't have to worry about writing code or maintaining that code in all of your forms. It's good for the forum because it helps us focus on the long-tail of really vexing issues. Thanks!

i am waiting on a return phone call so that I can work through my scenario i describe above.  Seems like it will work, i just dont know the steps yet.  I get this to work, and i will purchase this app.  I am very pleased with the QDabra Excel to Infopath i purchased a month ago!!!!

    Hi Chris!

Looks like you talked to Ted and Hilary today and you are on the right track. Let me know if you have any further questions for me. :)
