Have an textbox where only a manager can edit

Is there a way to make an infopath form, where on the form, there is a certain spot where only a supervisor can edit?

For example, im making a folder access request form. The user fills out the form, once its submitted i have it set up to go to the manager for approval.

I want it set up in a way where i have check boxes for approved and not approved. But i want this only enabled for managers. I dont want to have different views as for some reason everyone can change the views and our users are all very computer literate and very curious.

So is there a way to have a spot on the form set for specific people to edit only?

    Hi C0oli0,

If the form is not a browser form, you can user User Roles, and conditional formatting rules to hide the fields (or disable them) if the user is not in the Manager role.

If the form is a browser form, you can do the same thing by adding some fields to your form that store the role based on active directory query (see Qdabra's ADWS) or SharePoint's GetUserProfile info.

    Happy trails!

OK so, i didnt really understand all that, so another question, is there a way to create a form, and when anyone opens it, for the file, edit, tools options to not be there?

I dont want users to be distracted by those options.

Hi Coolio, yes it's possible when you design your form, go to "form option" then "advanced" and check "enable protection".

    What exactly is it protecting?

I just want certain areas to be protected not all. I want all users to edit vertain parts of the form, but i want only managers be allowed to hit the approve or not approved option...

OK so the above issues arent really all that important any longer. My main question now is this, i have it set in a way where if the request is approved, it directs it to the IT guys to give the access.

But what code or rule or whatever do i use, to set it in a way where if its not approved, it goes back to the user who submitted.

im currently entering everything manually as i dont know how to grab info from AD. Any help is appreciated, TY!
