Dreaded "The operation cannot be completed." error message.

I've been building a layout for an InfoPath 2007 form for about 4 days straight.  The form has 9 views.  I've been building it in VS 2008 and running it in designer mode to admire my work, validate layout alignment, etc.  I added a few tables to the layout and then went to run it in the designer and I get the dreaded "InfoPath cannot open the selected form.".  I try to open the manifest.xsf and it gives me the error "The operation cannot be completed.".

I've cleared cache via both the command line and by deleting the FormCache2 and temp files.

I can't look at the Logic Inspector because I can't open the manifest.  It won't run in debug, and I've tried debugging in a new instance but that gives me the "InfoPath cannot open the selected form." error, too.  There's no code in the code behind so that's not the problem.

Is there any way to debug this problem?  I can't believe all I get is a simple error dialog with no other means to figure out what's wrong.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Hi CFernald,

Sorry to hear that your form is broken. You can rename the file extension for the XSN to CAB and open up the individual files but the manifest.XSF will be hard to debug. My suggestion would be to copy the view into a new form template (extract the View1.XSL) and reconstruct the data source and then rebind it. Could take some time, but probably simpler than creating the form from scratch.

    Best of luck!

So, when you try to open the manifest, you get an error -- no details on that error? Or were you trying to design the manifest? Sometimes I get better error messages if I open a form rather than design it.

Thanks for your interest and I apologize for getting back to this post so much later.

I work on InfoPath in Visual Studio so the guts of the XSN are easily accessible.  I yanked out the last view I created and was then able to open the form. I have no idea what the underlying problem was.  I really wish more information about these error conditions would be displayed because "The operation cannot be completed" doesn't tell me a whole lot.

    Thanks again.
