Loading partital, large list based on catagory.

    Loading partital, large list based on catagory.

    I have a large list growing beyond 300 records. This is making the form load time incredibly long if not prohibitive. I have the form loading the list automatically. My question is centered around loading only part of the list via a button. I remove the automatically load list feature by unchecking the box. If I setup rules based on category of the list, to filter my needs. How can I just load that category without the baggage of the entire list. I have experimented with views, yet this still wants to pull the complete list. I thought about making smaller individual lists, but my problem here is I only want to manage one list and I've assigned items to ID to remove any chance of duplications.Any guidance would be welcomed.

    Hi:

    What version of InfoPath and SharePoint are you using? I think with 2010, SharePoint list connections have query fields... that would allow you to populate a query field before running the query.

    Is it the loading of the data or the displaying of the data on the form that is causing your slow load time? You could try opening the form to a blank view but still load data on open to check that. If it is the display of the data on your form that is slowing you down, you could add filters to the table that shows the data.

    If you are using an earlier version of SharePoint / IP, you may need to look into using an owssvr.dll data connection. They allow filtering, either via code or you can use qRules and save yourself the bother of writing and maintaining code.

    Running 2007. The IT department moved the sharepoint site off campus and in that process I lost all performance. I have the list well filtered once loaded, but the load of the form is brutal. I will investigate Qrules. I am not farmilliar with the owssvr.dll, I will investigate this as well. Thanks
