Is it possible to create a data connection to fields in an excel file uploaded on sharepoint?

Any help on this would be appreciated?

    Thanks

The only way I can imagine doing this would involve creating a database that is linked to Excel file -- which means an Access database -- and then creating a data connection to the Access database. Your Access DB would have to be someplace all form users could access it, with appropriate permissions. Here's a link to linking Excel with Access... Any chance the data in the Excel file could just be stored in a SharePoint list instead? You'd have a less fragile setup then....

Thank you Hilary, I guess, this would work or us only, if there is a way to upload the data from an excel file automatically in a sharepoint list? Is there any?

    Thanks

Another option would be to use Qdabra's XLS to XML tool to upload the Excel to SharePoint Form Library as separate XML files. Then you can just add a SharePoint data connection to that library.

I don't know what versions of SharePoint or Excel you are using, but this link may be of some help. Patrick is right -- you could use our tool to generate XML files for your Excel data -- with promoted properties and submitted to a form library, you could then query that.
