Hi,
I'm relatively new to InfoPath & SharePoint but have been an asp / SQL coder for eons. I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction on this please:
There's an application I've been asked to look at doing. It's reasonably complex and traditionally, I'd just have put together a database driven web app. However, the requestor wants to use SharePoint and, ideally, InfoPath.
I need to present related data from documents in more than one SharePoint library within the same InfoPath form. That bit I can do. However, I then need to be able to commit alterations to the data on that form back to their original locations - just as you'd do with a multi-table update if using asp & SQL. The problem is that I don't know A) if it's possible, B) the best way to go about it if it is. I believe (possible wrongly) that the out-the-box InfoPath submit functionality only goes as far as overwriting a document with a new and updated version - nothing finer grained than that. That's obviously not what I'm wanting to do here, rather I just want to update certain fields in certain documents.
I suspect this isn't something that will be doable in InfoPath using rules. If not, can I get more low-level access to the InfoPath functionality? If so, (dumb question alert), how?
As an aside, there is the 'Edit Form Code' button in button property dialogs, but I must be missing an app as it only says:
That's one I can look at just now anyway, but advice on that'd be good too. I do have Visual Studio and SharePoint Designer etc installed. I'd have thought they'd have been all that was required!
Thanks in advance!
